Question

The Flash came up with new polymer so that his superhero suit doesn’t burn up from the friction of air molecules as he runs. However, he forgot to write down the formula. He can tell from elemental analysis that the polymer is made up of only three elements: carbon, hydrogen, and oxygen. By mass, it’s 56.45 % carbon and 5.93 % hydrogen, with the rest of the mass made up of oxygen. What is the empirical formula of this polymer?

Expert Solution
Check Mark
Step 1

To solve this we have to consider the mass of polymer = 100.0g

Then

Mass of C = 56.45 g

Mass of H = 5.93 g

Mass of O = 100.0g -(56.45g + 5.93 g) = 37.62g

To calculate empirical formula we have to calculate number of mole of each elements.
