William Jay Youmans (1838–1901)

Youmans, William Jay. An American writer and chemist; born at Milton, Saratoga County, NY, in 1838; died at Mt. Vernon, NY, April 10, 1901. He published a book, ‘Pioneers of Science in America’ (1895); edited Huxley’s ‘Lessons in Elementary Physiology,’ adding a second part, ‘Elementary Hygiene’ (1867); many years editor of the Popular Science Monthly, succeeding his brother, Edward L.
