William Allen Butler (1825–1902)
Butler, William Allen. An American poet; born in Albany, NY, Feb. 20, 1825; died on Sept. 9, 1902. He graduated from the University of the City of New York in 1843, and later practiced law in New York. He wrote: ‘Nothing to Wear’ (1857), a satirical poem which attracted wide attention; ‘Two Millions,’ a satire (1858); and ‘Mrs. Limber’s Raffle.’
