Mary Noailles Murfree (Charles Egbert Craddock) (1850–1922)

Murfree, Mary Noailles, better known as “Charles Egbert Craddock.” A noted American novelist; born at Murfreesboro, TN, Jan. 24, 1850; died in 1922. She was a contributor to the Atlantic Monthly before 1880. Among her best-known books are: ‘In the Tennessee Mountains’ (1884); ‘The Prophet of the Great Smoky Mountains’ (1885); ‘In the Clouds’ (1886); ‘The Story of Keedon Bluffs’; ‘The Windfall’; ‘Raid of the Guerilla’ (1912).
