Mary Dana Shindler (1810–1883)

Shindler, Mrs. Mary Stanley Bunce (Palmer) (Dana). An American poet and author; born in Beaufort, SC, Feb. 15, 1810; died in 1883. Her poems, once very popular through the South, include: ‘The Southern Harp’ (1840); ‘The Northern Harp’ (1841); ‘The Parted Family and Other Poems’ (1842); ‘The Temperance Lyre’ (1842). She also wrote ‘Charles Morton; or, The Young Patriot’ (1843); ‘Forecastle Tom’ (1844); and ‘Letters on the Trinity’ (1845).
