Margaret Deland (1857–1945)

Deland, Margaret Wade (Campbell). An American poet and novelist; born in Allegheny, PA, Feb. 23, 1857; died in 1945. She was a resident of Boston. Her fame was made by her theological polemic novel ‘John Ward, Preacher’ (1888). Among her other well-known works are: ‘The Old Garden and Other Verses’ (1886); ‘Old Chester Tales’ (1898); ‘Dr. Lavender’s People’ (1903); ‘The Awakening of Helena Ritchie’ (1906); ‘The Iron Woman’ (1911).
