Lord John Campbell (1779–1861)

Campbell, John, Baron. A British legal biographer; born in Springfield, near Cupar, Fifeshire, Scotland, Sept. 15, 1779; died in London, June 22, 1861. He was Lord Chancellor of England (1859–61); and wrote: ‘Lives of the Lord Chancellors’ (1845–48) and ‘Lives of the Chief Justices’ (1849–57), both well-known and authoritative works.
