Peabody, Josephine Preston (Mrs. L. S. Marks). An American writer of prose and verse; born in New York in 1874; died in 1922. Author of ‘Old Greek Folk Stories’ (1897); ‘The Wayfarers’ (1898); ‘Fortune and Men’s Eyes’ (1900); ‘Marlowe’ (1901); ‘The Singing Leaves’ (1903); ‘Pan’ (1904); ‘The Book of the Little Past’ (1908); ‘The Piper’ (1909); ‘The Singing Man’ (1911); ‘The Wolf of Gubbio’ (1913).
