John Russell Bartlett (1805–1886)

Bartlett, John Russell. An American author; born in Providence, RI, Oct. 23, 1805; died there, May 28, 1886. He was Secretary of State of Rhode Island from 1855 to 1872. Besides many books of local interest, he prepared a ‘Dictionary of Americanisms,’ which is widely known as a work of reference.
