John Millington Synge (1871–1909)

Synge, John Millington. An Irish dramatist; born at Newtown Little, near Dublin, April 16, 1871; died on March 24, 1909. He wrote ‘In the Shadow of the Glen’ (1904) and ‘Riders to the Sea’ (published 1903, though written later than ‘In the Shadow of the Glen’); ‘The Tinker’s Wedding’ (1908); ‘The Well of the Saints’ (1905); ‘The Playboy of the Western World’ (1907); and ‘Deirdre of the Sorrows’ (1910), the last of which he was completing when he died. ‘The Aran Islands’ (1907); ‘Poems and Translations’ (1909).
