He edited Every Boy’s Magazine and wrote: ‘The Boyhood of Great Men’ (1853); ‘Footprints of Famous Men’ (1853); ‘Crusades and Crusaders’ (1859); ‘Sea Kings and Naval Heroes’ (1860); ‘Cavaliers and Roundheads’ (1861).
