Johann Arnold Ebert (1723–1795)
Ebert, Johann Arnold (ā’bert). A German translator and poet; born in Hamburg, Feb. 8, 1723; died in Brunswick, March 19, 1795. His friend Klopstock addressed a pleasing ode to him. He is better known through his translations of Young’s ‘Night Thoughts’ and other poems than by his own work, which appears in ‘Epistles and Miscellaneous Verse’ (1789).
