Jacopo Durandi (1739–1817)

Durandi, Jacopo (dö-rän’dē). An Italian dramatic poet and historian; born in Sant’Agata, Vercelli, July 25, 1739; died in Turin, Oct. 28, 1817. ‘Armida’ (1770) and ‘Hannibal in Turin’ (1771) are his best-known plays; his other gift displays itself in a ‘History of the Ancient Peoples of Italy’ (1769).
