Henri de Bornier (1825–1901)
Bornier, Henri Vicomte de (bōr-nē-ā’). A French dramatist, member of the Academy; born at Lunel, Dec. 25, 1825; died in Paris, Jan. 27, 1901. His plays are notable for splendor of diction. Among them are: ‘Luther’s Wedding’ (1845); ‘Dante and Beatrice’; ‘The Daughter of Roland.’ He twice won the prize of the Academy with the lyrics ‘The Isthmus of Suez’ (1861) and ‘France in the Extreme East’ (1863). He was the author of several successful novels and romances.
