Ernst Förster (1800–1885)

Förster, Ernst (fėr’ster). A German painter and art critic; born in Münchengosserstädt on the Saale, April 8, 1800; died in Munich, April 29, 1885. He showed his literary skill in ‘The Truth about Jean Paul’s Life’ (1827–33); ‘History of German Art’ (1851–60); ‘History of Italian Art’ (1869–78); and numerous essays on the works of the old masters.
