Alexis Piron (1689–1773)

Piron, Alexis (pē-rô‘). A French poet; born at Dijon, July 9, 1689; died at Paris, Jan. 21, 1773. As an epigrammatist he holds the foremost place in French literature. He wrote many tragedies, comedies, and comic operas but of these none is now valued except the comedy ‘Metromania’ (The Poetic Craze). (See Critical and Biographical Introduction).
