Agustín de Zárate (1514?1585?)
Zárate, Agustín de (thä-rä’tē). A Spanish historian; born about 1514; died at Madrid (?) about 1585. He was comptroller of Castile; accompanied Nuñez Vela, viceroy of Peru, to South America in 1543; was afterward treasurer of the Spanish Netherlands. He wrote: ‘History of the Discovery and Conquest of the Province of Peru’ (1555).
