In my opinion ,the US should bear a bigger responsibility for causing the cold war .After the second world war , the ideological difference ,mutual distrust and the disappearance of the common enemy (germany ) , these all are the causes of the cold war .However ,these comflicts were all brought by the US . Many historians believe that the Cold War was inevitable once the common enemy, Germany, was defeated after the end of World War II. Other historians such as John Gaddis stress that neither superpower can be held solely responsible for the ideological war that lasted half a century. These historians believe that the US and the USSR followed a pattern of action and reaction; and that neither nation had a definitive plan of action (Todd, …show more content…
This is because the USSR took these policies as a direct attack against communism. Stalin coined the term "dollar imperialism" for the US foreign policies because they offered economic aid to nations in Europe that were detrimentally affected by WWII in an attempt to make these nations economically dependent on and politically influenced by the US. It caused fear and paranoia in the USSR because the soviet communists believed that the US would gain political and economic control of the countries in need of aid. It also caused fear and paranoia because the Truman Doctrine and Marshall plan condemned communism as evil and it took action to prevent the spread of communism to any susceptible nation by providing military assistance. The USSR was upset that the US could do such a thing, thus they responded furiously to these policies by developing their own similar form of economic aid. These were called the Molotov Plan and Comecon which forcefully imposed economic aid on countries such as Czech (even if these nations wanted the aid of the US instead). These actions and reactions caused tensions to greatly rise in the Cold War (Todd, 2009). Thus, it can be argued that it was not only Truman's policies, but Stalin's policies that also played a major role in the Cold War.

The US wanted to spread democracy and supported countries with economic assistance who democratically ruled or attempting to be democratically ruled. The Marshall Plan gave financial assistance to countries in Europe to rebuild their nations. Unfortunately Russia did not receive any financial benefits of the Marshall Plan, due to their desire to not appear weak. The US pledged to assist any country who was trying to resist or overthrow the influence of communism. NATO was an alliance of democratic nations who promised to support each other if someone attacked a country. Russia saw this as a US attempt to dominate the world. Russia in response, created the Warsaw Pact. The Warsaw Pact was in essence a Soviet version of NATO. Each country was supporting any country that was aligned with their ideology. For example, the US supported South Korea whom they had occupied during WWII , while North Korea was supported by their WWII occupying force, Russia. In June of 1950, the North Korean Army, weaponized by Russia, invaded South Korea. In response, the UN forces attacked and pushed the North Korean army across the 38th parallel. In November of 1950, the communist army of China sends hundreds of thousands of soldiers and pushes the UN army to retreat due to heavy losses. With the Cold War in full swing, the US strengthened its
A Cold War is when there is a large amount of tension built up between two countries but no fighting occurs. The Cold War between U.S. and Russia started in 1947 and ended in 1991. It started over a race to build a bigger and better atomic bomb. Although the U.S. working class was able to live comfortably again, the Cold War affected the United States by increasing people’s fears of Communist spies, of nuclear war, and of losing to the Soviet Union.
Image, being alive during the cold war. You will be aware that the United States could be bombed or even if you lived in Russia you would still be scared because at any time a bomb can get be drop on either the United States or Russia did not matter. The cold war started because of the arms race they would use their "weapons" to threaten each other.Imagine hearing the tv that Russia or the United States can drop a bomb on each other at any moment.Image there can be a Russian spy next to you or lives near you.The other reason why the cold war started is because of communist vs capitalist.Inconclusive there were some scary moments during the cold war what would you do if you were alive during it.
The Truman Doctrine and Marshall Plan promised aid to all countries willing to stand up to the communist threat. This showed that the USA was heavily against the USSR’s plan to spread communism and would have created a lot
The Soviet Union and the west also formed political alliances to combat the other side. Western Europe and the United States formed NATO,a military pact. The Soviet Union created a similar pact, the Warsaw Pact, between the states within the Soviet Union. These military coalitions put a greater threat behind the growing conficts by involving more countries. These military alliances were supplemented by two edicts set by the Soviet Union and the United States. The United States issued the Truman Doctrine, which stated that they would support those countries resisting communism. Likewise, the Soviet Union later issued the Brezhnev Doctrine which decreed that the Soviet Union would intervene with force in order to protect communism in its satellites.
The Origins of the Cold War The Cold War period from 1945 to 1985 was a result of distrust and misunderstanding between the USSR and the United States of America. This distrust never actually resulted any fighting between the two superpowers but they came very close to fighting on several occasions. The Cold War was a result of many different events and factors including the Bolshevik Revolution of 1917, the Potsdam Conference of 1945, the differences between communism and capitalism, the 'Iron curtain' speech and Marshall Aid.
In this paper I will discuss what actions and thoughts added up to cause the cold war. The cold war lasted from September 1, 1945 to about December 25, 1991. That is about forty-five years, which is an extremely long time. The cold war was a global competition basically between two sides, the Free World, which was led by the United States of America, and the Communist World led by the Soviet Union. The struggle took place through indirect military conflict, and direct competition in the areas of economics, diplomacy, culture, space exploration, and political theory. It also involved nuclear stand offs, espionage, and global competition for other nations. The cold war has established the framework for most
In 1961 President John F Kennedy put together a doctrine, which altered from President Eisenhower’s one. It was to “Respond flexibly to communist expansion, especially guerrilla warfare.” (Roskin & Berry, 2010, p. 58) It was a time when the Cold War was at its height and nuclear weapons a mass threat and source of power. This doctrine was aimed at using alternative means before opening into combat. This, in light of the Cuban Missile Crisis in 1962, it succeeded in doing.
Discussion of the Causes of the Cold War The cold war was a direct result of many causes. The leaders of the world could not agree on very much and lead the world into the cold war. During the second world war, Britain, France, USA and the Soviet Union had all been allies, fighting against Germany. After World War Two, Britain, France and the Usa had become enemies of the Soviets.
The Cold War had a myriad of factors that contributed to the ignition of the war between the United States and the USSR, but the primary contributing factors, such as the Nuclear Arms Race, the Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Blockade of Berlin, shows the USSR is to blame for causing the Cold War, even though the United States is responsible because of the policy of containment. The Cold War had many factors that contributed to the start of the war between the United States and the USSR, but the primary contributing factors, such as the Nuclear Arms Race, the Cuban Missile Crisis, Blockade of Berlin the Soviet Union is responsible because of the Nuclear Arms Race, Cuban Missile Crisis, and the Blockade of Berlin.
When trying to figure out the factors that lead to the cause of the Cold War, it is best to look at other factors as well. It is best to look at both the Soviet Union and the USSR's policies and plan. For example, the United States held true to their idea of Capitalism while also being cautious of Soviet Communism. When Europe was in desperate need to rebuild after World War II, The United States made monumental moves to prevent the spread of Communism as seen with the passing of the Marshall Plan which had been a reaction to the coup in Czechoslovakia. The Marshall plan was designed to give immediate economic help to Europe. There was a confliction of deciding whether or not to allow the Soviets to join the plan or to exclude them. This aspect was solved by setting down strict criteria to qualify for American economic aid. This incident allowed the United States to investigate the financial records of applicant countries. However, the USSR would never tolerate this condition. The United States wanted to invite the USSR to join the Marshall Plan. The aim of the Marshall Plan was to revive European working economies so that political and social stability could ensue, and the other aim of the Marshall Plan was to safeguard the future of the U.S. economy. The Soviet reaction the the Marshall Plan was not very well. The Soviets rejected the Marshall Plan. The Soviets saw this as a prime example of American ¨dollar imperialism.¨ In other words, the Soviets
I think that to some extent, the Soviet Union was to blame for the start of the Cold War. The Soviet Union’s aggressive actions in Eastern Europe meant that the Americans had to step in to stop the Soviet Union from taking over Eastern Europe and making the countries into puppet states of theirs. As stated in the Truman Doctrine, America was supposed to aid all countries under oppression. That is why the Americans tried to stop the Soviet Union and allow democracy in those countries which the Soviets didn’t like at all. That distanced the two countries from each other and made them hate each other even more.
The end of the cold war signified a new era of history that has changed the entire world. The face of Europe and Asia has changed dramatically. Vast changes have been felt socially, politically, and especially economically. Also the effect the cold war had on foreign policy was paramount. The effect of these changes is not only felt across the ocean but can be felt here in America. The goal of this paper is to define what the cold war specifically was, and reflect upon the various choices throughout the world as a result of the end of the cold war.
After WWII the tensions between East and West started to build up. America did not like the expansion of Communism around the world and therefore America’s leader at the time, President Truman, introduced the policy of containment, which stated that they don’t want to get rid of communism, they just want to stop it from spreading. The period from shortly after WWII to 1989 (sometimes 1991) became known as the Cold War because there was little to no actual fighting, although the political tensions were boiling.
A cold war is a war that is fought not with soldiers but with a state of political hostility between two or more countries. Cold wars are fought with open threats and propaganda. Thus creating a very tense atmosphere between two countries. After WWII there was a split in Europe called the Iron Curtain, in which separated the communist governments from the democratic governments, who in fact hated each other. It mostly divided Communist East Germany from Democratic West Germany. However during this time the US and the Soviet Union are both considered nuclear power but both have signed treats preventing the spread of these technologies. The cold war is a fight between the Democracies and the Communists, however they both contribute to the tense airs in the cold war. The fault of the cold war can be set on the US because they created NATO, but the blame can also be put on the Soviet Union because of their attempts at expansion. Needless to say both countries combined made the Cold war and its tense atmosphere.
