What is a zone defense? A zone defense is a type of defense used in team sports, especially in basketball. It is basically the alternative to man to man defense. Instead of each player guarding a corresponding player on the other team, each defensive player is given an area known as a zone to cover. Not only can the zone defense be used in basketball, but it can be used in many other sports where defensive players guard players on the other team. There are many different types of zone defenses, such as, matchup zone, and box and one. Match-up zone is a hybrid man to man and zone defense in which players apply man to man defense to an opposing player who enters the area. The box and one zone defense is when four defenders are in a 2 in 2 zone and one defender guards a specific player on the offense. The Match-up zone was created by John Chaney, a former head coach. The box and one zone defense was invented by National Basketball Hall of Fame coach Harry Litwack. …show more content…
This is a defensive strategy used in basketball as an alternative to man to man defense. This type of defense is called 2-3 because of how it’s formatted on the court. This zone defense consists of two players at the front of the defense and three behind. The zone defense that was first used was the 3 to 2 zone defense. This zone defense was first used in 1914 by Eli Camden Henderson at Bristol High School. They only reason this zone defense was used was because they gym floor was made of green pine and it was very slippery when wet, when the roof
Baseline-a boundary line in the back of each side of the court, which is parallel to the net.

On defense, there are defensive linemen who aim to tackle, or “sack” the quarterback. Next, the linebackers serve as support by standing behind the linemen, they get their name by literally “backing the line.” Specifically, their job is to tackle the running back or quarterback if either one of them crosses the “line of scrimmage,” or the initial location of the ball, with the ball in hand. Furthermore, the defensive backs attempt to prevent the wide receivers from catching passes from the quarterback.
is where you want to focus on the rim and extend at the elbow, and extending at
We start our season by teaching how to tackle properly, in a controlled, slow setting. We begin by putting kids in the correct “fit” position, where contact is already made. This coincides with many of the ideas Coach Lewis hit on in the video. We put them in a position with good bend in the hips, knees, and ankles, eyes on the football, and arms in the cocked position, ready to explode. Their shoulder pad is already in contact with the ball carrier. On the command, the tackler will explode with his arms under the arm pits of the ball carrier, grabbing cloth in the back, rolling his hips and driving through. After the initial explosion, the tackler will keep his feet moving, running through the ball carrier. We practice this drill until we are comfortable that everyone on our team has the correct fit position. Every coach is walking around during this drill, critiquing each player, getting them in the correct position. Once we are comfortable that our players know what a proper fit position is, we will then proceed to the drill we do every day. It is called “box tackle”. This drill takes our “fit” drill one step further. Our players will now shuffle two steps with good bend in the knees, hips, and ankles. They will then make contact with the ball carrier in a good fit
My group has decided to create a low organization game. This game is called “Reach the Bag”. In this game there will be 4 teams and 2 teams will be playing on the court at once. The gym will be divided in half and both teams will have their own side. Both teams will have flags around their waist. At the back of each side there will be 4 bean bags that will be spread out in a designated spot which will be shown by a few pylons. This area will be called the “Safety Zone”. These bean bags are the objects that the opposite team is trying to get to the middle. In order to get these bean bags, a teammate has to run to the opposite side without getting their flag ripped off. If your flag is ripped off, the player must get their flag and go back to
The person head should be looking upwards and the person eyes should be on the ball carrier at all times when playing defense. The player’s feet needs to be shoulder-width apart, with the knees bent and shoulders back. He has to be at least 45 degree angle relative to the ground. Actually it’s really called a “breakdown” position. While trying to practice it the player should make sure to hop into a breakdown and start buzzing their feet, switching their weight under them quickly like some hot rocks or under
When a team is on offense there is only one player up to bat at a time and no more than three base runners at one time. A team plays on offensive until the defense gets three outs. Then they switch sides.
Baseball is a game with two teams and the teams either try to score runs by hitting a small circular white ball called a baseball or they try to field the ball and pitch the ball to try to get three outs. The way you get a run or point is to hit the baseball with a bat ,if swing the bat and you miss, It’s called a strike, another way to throw a strike is, there is an umpire and you have a strike zone, a strike zone is a invisible box from your knees to your chest and the the width of the strike zone is told from a base called home plate, it is a triangle shaped base (a base is a white bag filled with sand or foam with a hard outside) and the width of it, is your width of the invisible strike zone. A ball is when a
The last and most fun zone is called the offensive zone. This is where you take all the shots and score all the goals. This is the zone you go barreling in to get the puck from the opposing team. Those are the three different zone of the ice.
One of these strategies is to develop open lanes on the field to exchange the disc between the thrower and the receiver. Another strategy is the vertical stack. This is when the offense lines up in a straight line along the length of the playing field. Players in the stack make cuts going towards or away from the handler, thus opening up a lane for to break through. Another strategy is the horizontal stack. In this strategy three handlers line up across the width of the field with four cutters up field, spaced evenly across the field. This formation encourages cutters to attack any of the space either up field or downfield of the
A good offense is nice to have, but good defense lowers the other teams chance to score. Good defense also takes the pressure off the team when on offense. The team won't feel as if they have to score on every possession. Defense is hard to train, and a partner is required. The main thing to do on defense is to stay between the person being guarded and the goal. A good defensive player needs to be quick and agile, but also have good endurance. Once the player has learned how to defend, they can become a bit more aggressive. The player should soon reach out to interrupt dribbles and steal the ball, or try block shots and passes to create turnovers.
But, ones you hold back the ball you have only 2 choices which are passing or shooting. When you hold the ball, you cannot travel more than 2 steps, which mean 3 steps and above. Points in basketball consist of 3 types that are 3 points, 2 point and 1 point. The recommended attire when playing basketball are sport shoes, three-quarter pants and sleeveless shirt.
Since, they knew if anyone was late, we would all be paying for it later in practice.
There are always six people starting, positions 1,2,3,4,5,6. Positions one and four are the setting positions; the people who play the net. Each time the ball crosses the net your team has three attempts to hit the ball back over.
