Zero Dark Thirty is a motion picture based on the series of events leading up to the assassination of the Al-Queda leader, Osama bin Laden. Realistically, the movie is centered around the theme of retribution. However, the retribution that took place in Zero Dark Thirty was intended as a form of justice for our country. During her time as an analyst for the Central Intelligence Agency, Maya dedicated all her time to gathering intel on Osama bin Laden, but was soon relocated to the U.S. Embassy in Pakistan which allowed her to become one step closer to finding Osama. To gain information about Osama bin Laden’s location, Maya accompanied Dan to black site locations where they interrogated suspects of the 9/11 attack. The information being withheld by the suspect was not being given up easily, so Dan was forced to use a series of enhanced interrogation techniques that included waterboarding, binding the suspect in multiple stress positions, and sleep deprivation. Though the detainee endured the enhanced interrogation techniques, they were justified to gain information that could possibly prevent any future terrorist attacks on America. Foreign policy was a topic discussed in our class among many, but it was one of the most important ones because it became necessary to gather more information after the attack on 9/11. The United States foreign policy on enhanced interrogation is that it is permitted as long as it’s on non-American soil. Using extreme techniques for interrogation includes methods such as waterboarding and humiliation. Waterboarding involves pouring water over a
