Xenophon's View Of Socrates

I will be doing my research paper on the philosopher Socrates, who does not have many things written by him, because Socrates, instead on writing dialogs and technical works, guided his students to remember what their soul already knew. Socrates was at first a soldier, who, even though living in Athens with their high standard and high profile life, chose to be minimalistic in what he wore, or the way he presented himself. Even though he did not outright say so, it was believed to think that Socrates did not believe in the standard Athenians view on religion. However, it is well known that Socrates had a different point of view from the Sophists, although they still respected each other and conversed with each other in the town square.

Xenophon said that Socrates would more often than not give his opinions on what other philosophers said so that his students could further grasp the concept of what other philosophers where trying to convey. Xenophon’s’ Socrates when he talks about him is in a very different point of view from the view point of how Plato describes and writes about Socrates. Xenophon would also write about the philosophical conversions Socrates would have with others and one of his most famous conversations was with a prostitute where they talked about what the true meaning of conversation was, because Diogenes was unhappy with how being polite meant lying, and he was sick and tired of all the useless lies people …show more content…

I discussed this with a person who’s name I have forgotten but the lesson I learned from them was not. I at first, did not believe Socrates, because my argument was, well since the midwife had to put the baby in there, then who did? Because there was clearly not a baby developing in the woman’s womb her entire life, and so one clearly had to be taught things, when I was proven wrong. I was proven wrong with the statement: But wasn’t the baby in the woman’s womb the whole time? A baby is made out of a fertilized egg, and the egg was in the woman’s womb her entire life, meaning Socrates example is a good one, and his beliefs have truths lying underneath them. That explanation opened my eyes, and I can now say I believe Socrates spoke truth when he said life is about remembering what the soul already
