The inspiration for my diary entry was the trip to Ypres because when we went there I saw how the soldiers lived in the trenches and I got more of an image of how their lives were like in the war. This motivated me to write from the viewpoint of a soldier in the war, and I chose a British soldier because of the ability to get the language that actual British soldiers used in the war across better because this was their original language. The trip to Ypres helped because then I could see how the lives of the soldiers were, and I got an actual image of the trenches because we went there and really experienced what it must have been like for the soldiers. The history skills that were useful in putting together my performance were definitely source …show more content…
The research I did on text types and examples of World War I texts that I found also had a lot of influence on my text because I looked at how the soldiers wrote their diary entries and what kind of things they wrote about. When I had a look at all the diary entries I saw that that was the only time many of the soldiers talked about their feelings and didn’t actually try to hide what they feel to make the women at home proud or to be more of a ‘man’. In the diary entries many of them talked about their unfiltered feelings so that is why I did that in mine as …show more content…
My particular character talks a lot about how much he wants to go home but he also talks about how he hides his feelings about the war when he writes to his wife and that is what traumatized a lot of soldiers even more because they had to ‘man up’ and pretend like the war was nothing to them while many of them were deeply hurt and affected by
I don’t know where to start on how much I miss staying at home and working in the factories. Life here is more unbearable then you could imagine, and with all these news reporters here reporting stuff back must have you worried sick. I'm lucky to have lived this long in this treacherous war. I'm sorry I haven't talked to you in a while, just there is so much stuff going on here! My daily routine includes waking up and hour before dawn the boys here call that "stand to". Then we go to a separate
Diary entry 1: 12 April 1915 Today I went down to the Melbourne Town Hall to enlist for the Australian Imperial Forces as my father had recently been rejected for being too old and failing his medical examination, so I stood up and took his place to represent my family. I enlisted claiming that I was 18 years old, even though I am only 14 and 3 months. The good news came when I was accepted and they even mentioned that I was the “Fittest specimen” that the officer had seen all day. I was then taken
The war is still raging on. There are many already dead, but it´s not getting any better. Many different challenges have fallen upon us in a variety of ways. We've faced many hardships, substantial problems, and varied difficulties. I’ll explain to you guys some of what is happening, I’m truly sorry if some of the imagery I speak about in this letter is too grotesque, but please read to your own discretion. I’m doing my best to come home back to you guys. Firstly, we’ve been having troubles at the
impact of new technology on methods of fighting in the air in WW1 and WW2. In this essay, I will explain how the impact of new technology (e.g. aircraft) on methods that were used to fight in the air in WW1 and WW2. As we can see from the date that Source A was made, we can recognize that it's a primary source, which was made on the 26th August 1914 (during WW1) by Lieutenant WR Read. This source is an extract from one of Read's diary entries, which Read reviews a previous mission he had been given
The holocaust was a sad time to be a jew in Europe. Jews was sent to camps in Poland. Germans hated the jews because hitler made them think that they was the cause of them failing WW1. So they had to make it feel like they wasn’t at fault. Which cause the holocaust. What can we learn about the holocaust by examining the day to day experiences of one victim. Germans wanted to break the jews until there was nothing left so that emotional and mental. First they would separate the men from the kids and
and family in many ways. -In this book the voice that is projected by the author is shown between the two main characters, Henry Lyon and Andy Lansell. Henry Lyon is the one that talks most in the book but Andy Lansell does include some journal entries from 1918 where he talks about his experiences and what he is doing in the war. Therefore, there are two main voices that are portrayed in this novel.
Trench warfare was implemented to provide cover for soldiers during battle in WW1 seeing that most battlefields were open field & farms, so soldiers had little or no cover from rifle fire. After suffering thousands of casualties, soldiers began to dig into the ground creating cover. Over the months the trenches grew & evolved to hold barracks & equipment. Within a few months trenches were equipped with all essentials to ensure there was no need to leave them unnecessarily. Trenches were first
been expected; however, for women, it is clear that WW1 brought with it a significant change in their identity. The actions of women and men in WW1 were a huge step towards gender equality. The catalyst behind the change in women’s identity was brought out due to the conscription debate. For women before the war their primary place was within the household although after the war their roles grew outside the workplace. The actions of women in WW1 were a huge step in the development of gender equality
In the article, Were German Militarism and Diplomacy Responsible for WW1?, V.R. Berghahn and Samuel Williamson both argue about the causes that started the First World War. For instance, V.R. Berghahn, author of Crisis of July 1914 and Conclusions, argued that while Europe’s powers led to the start of World War 1, Germany’s role, in fact, was the main factor responsible for beginning the conflict. Thus, he insisted, alike Fritz Fischer, that the assassination of Archduke Ferdinand and his wife at
Mexico: Interference and defeat, 1913-1917 overlaps, timewise, with six other chapters in the novel, no mention will be made of them unless they are connected to or influenced by one another. With it then moving on to American Neutrality, in relation to WW1, as it was the next event of great importance to occur in Wilson's presidency beginning August
After WW2, there was a thing called the holocaust. There were many concentration camps all over Germany where many Jews were killed in different ways. It happened between WW1 and WW2, 1933-1945. My position on why this happened is that Germany was going through a rough time, so Hitler wanted their country to resemble power. Read on to learn more about the causes and ways the Holocaust could have been avoided. The Holocaust was a mass slaying of groups of people which that Germany saw as inferior
even when, or if, family members returned, was stress lifted at home. Traumatizing experiences faced by soldiers scarred them, and they could never return to family life peacefully, leaving women and families to continue to suffer the consequences of WW1. Many of the impacts women dealt with came from changes in the economy, trade and international relations. Australia depended on imports and exports from international partners such as Germany. However, the outbreak of
by it. Hitler was the leader of the nazis in germany from 1934-1945. He started world war 2 and oversaw fascist policies that resulted in millions of deaths! (”Adolf Hitler”)Hitler loved his moustache, and he was once ordered to trim it because of ww1 service so it would fit under his gas mask, which didn't work because he was gassed in 1918 and was temporarily blinded. Hitler would not have had to cut it if he did not prefer the handlebar style of moustaches. (“10 Things You Didn’t Know About Hitler”)Hitler
He expressed deeper emotions and has told what he felt through some of his letters and diary entries. In one of his letter to his mother Simpson describes his emotions on war as he knows men should not envy them as war was not what anybody had first imagined and once they hit reality they are confronted with something else (Refer to figure 2)
- World War 1 and World War 2 are both considered to be the largest documented military conflicts in history, with the aid of many countries and advanced weaponry which had been introduced at the time.
