I chose this book because it seemed very interesting to me and have heard a lot of good things about this book. The book is about a British rifleman named Matthew Dodd during the Napoleonic Wars also known as the Peninsular War. During a fight with the French army he is cut off from his countryman. Rifleman Dodd gets stuck behind enemy lines and tries to stop the French from advancing. While doing this he is chased by French rifleman up a hill slope. He performs a hit-and-run tactic which is successful for him. But while in the tree line he meets a boy he calls “idiot” which tries to convince rifleman Dodd that he should stay with him because he knows where the villages are and can speak to the enemy. Later in the book he was able to regroup with his fellow countryman. At the end of the book …show more content…
He used this tactic while being chased up the hill side as well as when he was in the tree. Which in his case was very successful because he was alone and able to stay out of sight for most of the time. In this book I learned more about two leadership traits which are loyalty and courage. What I learned about loyalty is Rifleman Dodd stayed loyal to his mission even thou the chance for survive was very slim. He continued to push through and give it his all for his fellow countryman even though they were not there with him. For courage I learned that he must have a lot of courage to go up against a platoon of French rifleman and try to stop them from advancing while doing it by himself. There are many ways you can take the lessons in this book and implement them into today’s lifestyle. Sometimes in our life’s we just must do a “hit-and-run” and just hope everything works out for the best. Another lesson we could implement is loyalty and courage. You must have loyalty to your family, wife/husband, friends and to the Marine Corps. For all of them you must not cheat, lie, or steal from them and have their back whenever
The book opens with a squad of soldiers running a tactical control point just outside of a village called Yusufiyah. They are approached when a man Abu Muhammad had found his cousins family brutally murdered not too far off. Sgt. Tony Yribe and 3 others went to go investigate it. Although it was a terrible scene Sgt. Yribe had just assumed that it was like most other situations in Iraq in that the family was a victim of Iraqis attacking other Iraqis. The one thing that bothered him was that there was a shotgun shell and Iraqis do not normally use shotguns.
This book as I stated before is a wrenching view into the lives of the men involved and the battles they fought in Vietnam. The love Moore had for his men and the job they were tasked to do resounds through his actions leading up to and during combat. His main concept of leadership can be boiled down to the concept that a true leader must lead by example and not by commands, he must be with those he wishes to lead in the good times and the bad, and he must do everything in his power to ensure they are taken care of. With those ideals of leadership you can inspire greatness from your force regardless of the situation. I believe it is best summed up by the following excerpt from the
Henry Fleming who is just a young boy at this time is the main character in this book. When war breaks out Henry chooses through his own will to go
“Rifleman Dodd” is a novel written on the account of a certain British foot soldier of the “Ninety-Fifth Foot” named Matthew Dodd who encounters
Gun rights is something that I am very adamant about. Our second amendment clearly states that we as United States Citizens have the right to purchase firearms. As well as now many states are allowing open carry. I strongly believe that if someone goes through the classes and practice to learn how to safely and responsible carry a gun they have every right to do so.
This essay will outline how Gen. Moore was a visionary leader who displayed transformational ideals that aided the United States in its success on the battlefield as well as how he was instrumental in adapting a new style of warfare against the enemy in Vietnam. I will then discuss who Gen. Moore was as an ethical leader and how he dealt first hand not only with the struggles of war but also what it took as a leader to ready his men in order to meet the goals of the United States Army. Finally I will provide my own prospective on my claim as to why Gen. Moore was a visionary and ethical leader dedicated to the principals that made him a success.
Today during library, Yoel kept on making fun of Jack, Zach, Jon, and I, for playing roblox. He kept on saying that his gun game, CSGO, was better and that our game was "stupid". It really hurt our feelings and we told him to stop many, many times but he wouldn't. It would be much appreciated if you could talk to him about this
Despite having a few defined protagonists, the antagonist is sometimes hard to find. This can mostly be attributed to having multiple story lines within any given chapter telling you about what is going on with every side of the war. This structure gives the book a unique reading style that is enjoyable and adds an extra element to the experience of reading. I would recommend this book to
Playing with friends and family outside is usually fun for G.K. .Playing nerf outside with friends and family was even better for G.K. as a kid. When playing with nerf guns you want to make sure no one gets hurt and that it is all fun. He always loved playing with his cousins and older brother. It was a nice summer day in their small town of Crawford, Alabama. Their guns were not the best and would jam sometimes, but they were still good. It was not until one G.K. learned his lesson when he held the jammed gun to his eye to see the problem. After this very learning experience he now knows it is very important to be careful when playing with any type of toy guns because getting shot in the eye will hurt, knowing how to handle a jammed gun will save you from being shot, and being responsible with it helps you and others.
Statistics show that mentally ill people are more likely to commit acts of violence than other people. People who are bullied are 2 to 9 times more likely to kill themselves with a gun. I was giveing facts of what people who are pro gun control would say. But these things happen because background checks are not done that tell the gun clerk if the person buying it has a mental issue.
Even the dangers at school, tend to close the students in themselves. Since 2013, in all America, there were more than 200 school shootings, in other words one shooting each week. “The U.S. has higher rates of homicides from guns than Pakistan.”(Katie Leach-Kemon)
Gun shootings seems to be on the rise across the country. The Constitution has an Amendment with the words “The Right To Bear Arms”. There has been a rise of shootings across America in our public schools, movies, universities as well as attempted assassinations on law enforcements and other state officials. Guns are not seen as being just recreational, they are been sold and many people are unlicensed.
have a computer system that would tell which guns needed to be pulled. You would have to look at the serial number on the gun, find the gun’s card in a cabinet and look up the date for when the gun would need to be pulled. This system is very inefficient, so Don decided to create such a system that would say when a specific gun would need to be pulled. Not only did Don do this for the weapons, but he did the same for drivers licenses, and many more small tasks for military. This was his kick start into his career after the military. This is where he learned that he wanted to be a programmer after he left the military. (Morris)
Fives Illinois counties have passed major "sanctuary" resolutions, telling state legislators that they will declare their counties “sanctuaries” for gun owners, according to Independent Journal Review.
This is a great example of initiative, honor, courage, and commitment to the mission. This is a perfect example on how we must be on a day to day basis. Always putting the mission before self-comfort, to never question or object with whatever order or command you are given. Especially with us being in The United Stated Marine Corps, we should abide by these examples, and help others understand the importance of it as well. Everything that Captain Rowan did reflect our duty, our expectations, and our standards. Our duty as Marines to complete whatever mission is given to us, regardless of the objectives we may encounter throughout the way. To exceed the expectations they have for us, and to prove that no mission is impossible. One very important standard is to never strive for the bare minimum, but to always do everything to the best of our ability. We should always adapt and overcome in any given situation, and take initiative with good judgments. We should always work with what we got and do it with no hesitation, but most importantly, to go above and beyond the call of duty. Staying motivated and dedicated and applying Honor, Courage, and Commitment will take
