I stared out at the sunset from my post of land in the woods. The bleeding of reds, oranges, and pinks together perfectly reflected onto the shimmering lake. My stomach ached, but the taste of beauty made the pain somewhat bearable. This past summer, I went on a La Vida trip, where I was required to do a solo experience, where I was denied food and social interactions for two days. Fasting was proven to be difficult, but it was through that experience that I began to understand the concept of giving all yourself in worship to God. Most of my life I was only familiar with worshiping God with my time, resources, or through song. In denying myself food, I was shown how to worship God through fasting. From the lessons I learned at La Vida, my goals for the next four years are to do what Jesus said in Luke 10:27: “to love the Lord (my) God with all (my) heart and with all (my) soul and with all (my) strength.” Over these four years, I plan to worship God through every aspect of my life, including but not limited to in my academic and musical pursuits. Through my academics, I hope to be diligent in my pursuit of knowledge, to grow in my character, and to worship God. In the Liberal Arts for the Christian Life, Jeffrey C. Davis emphasized that education can be a means of worshiping the Lord. In all my pursuits of knowledge, I should study as if I’m “working for the Lord, not for human masters” (Col. 3:23). Then, through this discipline and training of faithfulness, I “can be
“We serve Christ in college by developing the talents he has given us to serve Him even more effectively for the rest of our lives” (pg. 20). Additionally, Davis indicates that “Both our talents and our opportunities are gifts from God for the purpose of serving Him faithfully” (48). Covenant does not offer Honors courses because the students at Covenant are all attending in order to receive an education that will allow for a growth enabling the Will of God. “We are all called to pursue an education that will enhance our ability to use our talents to glorify God and serve others” (pg. 70). In contrast, LaFayette High School depicted that the students taking Honors courses would have a greater chance at future success. However, Covenant emphasizes that earning an education is not merely for monetary gain; an education is earned to transform ourselves into the people God intended us to be. “We should not pursue liberal arts training so that we can be managers and leaders. We should pursue the training because it develops the talents God has given us” (pg.
The Bible tells us to “Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth” (2Tim 2:15 KJV).
My academic expectations of Vanguard University, are to be taught how to pursue knowledge, grow in character, deepen and strengthen my personal faith, and be be equipped for a life that is Spirit-led and Christ-centered. The ability to think is powerful, and I am giving my education over to Vanguard’s hands. I need and expect Vanguard to teach me how to think in a way that helps me to glorify God in all that I do. To go even deeper, thinking well doesn’t simply benefit me, but the world as well. I expect Vanguard to teach how to live for purposes higher than my own self. I hope to not only grow in knowledge, but to open my mind to see more clearly, act more justly, and love much more deeply than I ever thought possible.
When one chooses, to attend a Christian University, you expect to be met and challenged by the word of God and those who believe in the Christ, but I was not prepared for the amount of integration biblical principles would have in my weekly assignments. Through the adult studies seminar II course, I have learned to rest in the truth
We are at a trying time in our human history. We find ourselves at a moral, cultural, and political crossroads. With much of the landscape of influence being shifted year-to-year, or even day-to-day, we must, as individuals, recognize the importance of placing Christian values at the forefront of our thinking. Being as close to Christ-like as we humans can be must be essential in the way we think, the way we treat others, and the way we invest our very selves in causes that serve His name. In my previous three plus years here, as well as before, I believe that I have embraced these qualities and am ready to expand my horizon to the collegiate level.
"It should be clear that it is your responsibility to study, learn, and connect with God for yourself and then share your wonderful experience with the Good work that you are doing, not with fake lip service and Ulterior Motives." ~ Jon Barnes
Did you ever wonder what it truly means to be holy? Jeff Bridges, a bestselling author, wrote a book called The Pursuit of Holiness that explains just about everything you need to know about being holy and God’s holiness. Bridges believes that holiness is something that Christians often have trouble including in their life on a day-to-day basis. He speculates that the reason we have so much trouble with applying holiness to our lives is because we struggle in identifying what we have to do in order to be holy in the eyes of God. Bridges tackles this concept and breaks down the things that you can apply and remove from your life to pursue holiness.
Within this paper I will be reflecting over the first part of Theology 104. This class has addressed many topics that have given me a better understanding on Christianity, the Bible and most importantly Jesus Christ. I will be addressing two topics that I feel are very important to Christianity the first topic being the Importance of Personal Testimony and the second topic covering the Importance of Maintaining a Christian Lifestyle. Both of those topics I think help lay a foundation for an individual’s walk with Christ.
In the film Mulan, it displays many cultural aspects of what China was like in the Han dynasty. The film is about a girl called Mulan, who ignores her gender role as a female to secretly go in her father’s place in the army in fear of him dying and ends up saving all of China. I’ll be discussing two events that happened in this film to discuss the gender roles of women and family honour.
A daily bible study plays a major part for college freshman to grow closer to Christ. God set the bible as the main source for revealing Himself. The bible is His love letter to all humans, and by reading and studying it every day, they can start to truly understand God’s great character and His great love. God’s character is revealed within the bible’s pages; it tells of His great majesty and grandeur. If students do not dive into the word, they will miss how holy and perfect He is. Christ’s ultimate sacrifice is also explained multiple times in the bible. He demonstrated His great love for us by dying on a cross, defeating sin, and rising from the grave. He did all of this to save His creation, so they may come live with Him. Christians who do not study the bible can take His sacrifice for granted so easily. Freshmen must understand what Christ did for them and know how great their Lord is. Students can grow closer to Christ through prayer as well. God has given

Finding answers to life’s greatest questions or discovering a universal truth is something that scholars and theologians have tried to answer and failed to do so since the beginning of time. I received my Bachelors degree from a Liberal Arts university where I took classes that focused on ethics, philosophy, critical thinking, psychology, religion and a wide range of other classes, yet I feel no closer to the answer than when I was back in Sunday School at First United Methodist Church in Hickory, and first heard the story of Jesus and the Golden Rule.
This semester I learned a lot about writing in English 151. It has been a roller coaster ride with these essays for me this semester. I learned step by step how to write a good essay and how to have your readers be engaged in what you’re trying to tell them. Each essay I did has taught me something valuable I can take to the next level of English. I feel as if as the semester went by I did not take my writing that seriously and that reflected in my grades I received in each essay. It made me a better student and writer and it will reflect next semester. In this essay, I will reflect on what I learned throughout this semester that you should apply in your writing when you begin English 151.
In our society today, it can be hard to fully understand and relate to biblical texts written in a seemingly different world. With stories of great joys and sorrows, I found that although the world we live in today is different, the messages are still highly relevant. As long as humans are still imperfect and desired filled beings, we will need the wisdom of these biblical texts to guide us. As the stories of overcoming hardships and suffering made an impression on me, the stories of love and acceptance filled me with great emotion. There are many differences that seem to separate Christians today, whether in arguments such as interpretations or certain beliefs. This has only divided an undivided religion. I found comfort and strength from texts about love and a calling for Christians to come together despite differences. In this, I found a deeper connection to myself and others.
The Gothic literature’s development is very colorful and the influence is great, because the Gothic has devoted itself to many popular genres and influenced many important writers such as Edgar Allan Poe. Poe, as one of the most important writers in American Southern literature, makes very important contribution to the development of the Gothic literature. Edgar Allan Poe is one of the most unique writers in America. He stands alone with his aesthetic taste and writing principle, engaged in the morbid theme of nightmare, death, crime and evil. Consequently, he adopts Gothic technique in a composition, taking a full advantage of Gothic subject matter, plot and elements and lingering on violence, murder, insanity and collapse.
