World Hunger And Poverty

My Definition: A social problem is an aspect of society that people are concerned about and would like changed. Social problems are divided into objective and subjective elements. An objective element is the existence of a social condition and a subjective element is the belief that a particular social condition is harmful to society as a whole or harmful to a segment of society and that it should and can be changed.

Another cause for child hunger is unemployment. Many parents have lost their jobs due to the recession. Just like people that live in poverty, they don't have enough money to pay housing bills and are lacking food. In some cases, the decision has to be made between electricity or eating. This causes parents to fight about money problems and this effect kids because they start to worry. ("Hungry Kids")

It is estimated that 740 million people are starving in the world today. (Prakash and Conko 357) There are about 7.2 billion people in the world, so the hungry population accounts for 12.7% of the population. The time has come to change these statistics. It is the 21st century and we, as humans, now have the technology and resources to reverse these terrible numbers. There are two arguments on what we should do with this new technology, however. One side, researched by a science policy analyst, stated that biotechnology still has kinks to be worked out and is not the best way to combat world hunger. It can also put people in a bad situation such as succumbing to drugs and alcohol. Leaving what money, they do have to that. These factors definitely contribute to poverty and hunger.

Many factors contribute to the food insecurity faced by many American’s today. Poverty seems to attribute to the hunger crisis more drastically than anything else. More specifically, unequal distribution of wealth is the principle cause of hunger. The world does in fact produce enough food to feed everyone, the issues is that income is not distributed is in such a way that everyone can afford or have access to food.

People need nutrition to be strong and to be able to go to school or work, but without any healthy food that cannot happen. Their bodies cannot process the activities or material they are shown due to lack of nutrients that you get from healthy sustenance. therefore, they are not able to get a good paying job or education for later in their future. Consequently, poverty is different from other social problems, as a result; it affects people in different ways, and it limits development of people’s skills, ability, knowledge, and everything about them. A social problem is a social condition or pattern of behavior that affects some individuals or all people in the society. According to Kendall (2013) social problem is systematically disadvantage or harm a significant group of individual or when they are seen as harmful by groups of people that wield power, wealth, and influence in a group or society. Additionally, problems that harm a significant number of people include violence, fear of crime, environmental pollution, and inadequate access to health. However, there are some problems that occur in the society, not all these problems meet the proof to be defined as a social problem. Pursuing this further, not all circumstances occurring today in the society can be easily changed.

Hunger is a huge global problem, not only in the United States, but in other countries. Hunger has not only impacted the United States currently, but has affected our nation as a whole for a long time. Hunger has also affected our nation in other ways, such as, psychological problems, lead to homelessness, and can be associated with early death.

In addition, Tameside has the largest proportion of people claiming unemployment benefits compared to the rest of the North West of England.

Food is one of the basic needs of a human being to survive. All of us depend on food for having a good health, therefore with the lack of food many people will be starving and malnourished.
