Chalee For this unit I chose the book Wonder By R. J. Palacio. I will be discussing the overall theme of the book which is kindness. Wonder by R. J. Palacio tells the story of ten-year-old August. The boy was born with a face that isn't exactly normal. His eyes were one inch lower then they were supposed to be and he was born without a chin. He has had countless surgeries one of them being taking some of his hip bone and transferring it to where his chin should be. Over the years, because of his many surgeries, he has been homeschooled until it's time to go to middle school(5th grade). This story is told from his perspective as well as from his sister's, her boyfriend's and friends' perspectives. Which gives us an insight to what others think about auggie's situation as well as Auggie August and his …show more content…
“If every single person in this room made it a rule that wherever you are, whenever you can, you will try to act a little kinder than is necessary—the world really would be a better place. And if you do this, if you act just a little kinder than is necessary, someone else, somewhere, someday, may recognize in you, in every single one of you, the face of God.” (8.A Simple Thing.23) With Auggie's facial deformity he was homeschooled, granted he also had to go through many surgeries but nonetheless he has been sheltered up until 5th grade. This can be a good and bad thing, it can be good because he gets a personalized education bad side is that when it's time to go to public school he does not know how to deal with things. He is very hesitant to go to school, but after meeting a couple of students he decides to go away. He keeps a positive attitude about his condition. He knows that he's not a normal 10-year old. Yet I think kindness went a long way in helping him keep this positive attitude. When people were nice to him they saw the person he really was not the person they assumed him to
Julian would even photoshop Auggie out of the class picture and tape it on his locker, this would ultimately get Julian suspended for two days. This would make him miss the annual nature retreat, where Auggie and Jack would be harassed by a group of seventh graders from another school. Julian’s friends, Amos, Miles, and Henry would come to their defense. When they returned to school Auggie would become more accepted by his peers, I believe this comes from observational learning. Since everyone had seen Amos, Miles, and Henry become more friendly towards Auggie, as well as Jack and Summer, they started to believe that Auggie was not as “weird” or “scary” as they thought before.
August Pullman is a 10-year-old boy who has a mandibulofacial dysostosis. Which causes his face to appear different. Because of Auggie’ appearance, people a very unkind to him. Auggie has gotten 27 surgeries to help him with his facial deformity. He lives with his parents, his older sister Via, and his dog Daisy. Auggie has been home schooled up until the 5th grade, but his parents decide it's time for him to go to a real school. They register him to Beecher Prep and take him to meet the principal, Mr. Tushman. Before Auggie starts school he takes a tour with three students who will be in the same grade as he was going in. On the tour, he meets Jack Will, Charlotte, and Julian. Jack Will was the kind kid, but Julian was really mean to
At first not everyone is nice to Auggie but by the end almost everyone learns to accept Auggie for who he is. By going to school Auggie changed from a shy, and self-conscious boy to a confident, energetic young man. Up until 5th grade Auggie has been homeschooled by his mom instead of going to real school because of all of his surgeries so starting school is a big deal for him and he is a bit scared but by the end he
Imagine being made fun of every day in school. Imagine hiding your face in a mask. Imagine wanting a perfect face. This was sadly the life of August. August, a boy in the book Wonder by RJ Palacio, is not different from other boys.
After 27 surgeries to help him see, breathe and hear, Auggie (played by Jacob Tremblay) doesn't look like other children. He's small and scarred, with a high-pitched, scratchy voice and a braided rattail. He usually wears an astronaut helmet when he leaves the house. But after years of being home-schooled by his mother (played by Julia Roberts), he's preparing to join his peers at New York's Beecher Prep.
In any case, Justin's situation toward the finish reminds carefully readers that there are endless approaches to be lucky, and Auggie is lucky in the most ideal method for them all: he has a love and honoring family that dependably remains by him. The "war" beginning in the public school over Jack with Auggie is an awesome case of the way school can be an
This book is very interesting and motivating. Auggie is himself poignant character. His story is moving and uplifting. Auggie is an ordinary kid from the inside. This book is inspiring and refreshing. This book will leave any reader feeling better. This book will also have some drama, friendship, and bullying.
Auggie has facial deformities and has had many surgeries in his life. He is starting school for the very first time. At his new school, all the kids look at him like he is a monster. Except for one her name is Summer. Auggie met her at lunch on his first day she was the only person that saw him as just another human.
In the book Wonder Auggie’s parents made the right choice sending Auggie to school. R.J Palacio created the character August to show how he can deal with school and even though he has deformations. Even though he has deformations, that does not affect his learning.
Auggie would not have hearing problems so he would not have to deal with the trouble of looking for his hearing aids in the closed off section of the Broarwood Nature Reserve. Auggie would want people to treat him like any other kid since that is what he is despite his facial deformity. Auggie receives a lot of attention from his parents. They not only listen to him, but they deeply attend to him with his concerns.
In the novel, Wonder, in pages 1-311, by R.J. Palacio, Auggie Pullman, a boy that had multiple surgeries due to his deformed cleft palate conquers the world with his smile and later his confidence. In this book Auggie goes to school for the very first time. Over time, Auggie learns how to appreciate who he is, and he shows others [kids & adults] that having a deformed face is not going to stop him from what he wants to achieve in life. Later on in his life, he faces the loss of his beloved dog named Daisy and many family problems such as his parent’s divorce and his dad’s new little family that is beginning. Overall R.J. tries to show kids like Auggie that they are meaningful in some way, and they are beyond amazing and strong.
He is kind to auggie but is still shocked because of how he looks. Nate Pullman is August’s father. He is very protective of auggie but at the same time he would like him to grow up mature and get used to the world because one day he going to have to face it. Isabel Pullman is auggie’s mother. She is the most protective of august. She loves him dearly and only wants good for him. Mr. Tushman is the principal at Beecher Prep the school August goes to currently. Miranda is one of auggie’s old friends that he was very close to. They stopped being friends over the summer because she lied about having a medically challenge brother. Christopher is one of auggie’s old friends and he moved away to Connecticut so they don’t get to see each other that much. Zachary old friend. Alex is also an old friend of auggie. Ella was other one of auggie’s best friend but grew apart. Mrs.Gracia is a lady that works at auggie’s school as an office assistant. Charlotte is a girl that goes to school with august. She was one of the first kids to meet august because she was in the group of students that showed the school around to august. She likes jack so when the “war” is going on she doesn’t pick any
In the story Wonder by R.J. Palacio Auggie Pullmans parents made the right decision to send him to Beecher Prep. Auggie had too many surgeries forcing him to not go to a public school.Despite his facial differences.
He went down to the cafeteria and looked for a place to sit and sat all by himself. Pretty soon a girl with long, brown, curly hair came sat by him. The told each other about themselves and decided to make their table the Summer table because August is in Summer and her name is Summer. Only people whose names had anything to do with Summer could sit there like Maya and Reid. When he had started school he had a Padawan braid (from Star Wars), and Julian asked him about it and basically said it was stupid, so Auggie cut it off the same night. The only person that was really really mean to him was Julian, no one else bullied
August saw himself as an extraordinary kid, because he was different. He had a facial problem
