Woman’s health issues must be considered in the health care reform because of preventative health care, mental health, and women need specific health care and benefits. 1) Preventative health care in women provides the diagnostic and preemptive disease treatments. Preventative measures include contraceptives, breast examinations, pap-smears, counseling and education, and mental health screenings. Preventative care is so important in women because women need specific health care rather than men. The specific health care that is needed for women prevents the extra costs of future treatments and medications of diseases and genetic disorders that are prevalent in women only. The health care reform must include women’s health for that fact that
There are some similarities in the stories To Build a Fire, An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge, and The Veteran. In all three stories the main character is a male. In To Build a Fire written by Jack London, the main character does not have a name but it is a male because the story says “The man looked along the way he had come” (London, 64). This quote shows that the main character is a male because it says the man. You would not call a woman a man so it has to be a male.
The Texas Women’s Health Program has start off on a foot of controversial opinions, personal ideals, and questionable authority, and with these comes thousands of critiques, arguments, and overall complaints for the program as a whole. The two prominent sides to this story, those who are for the bill and those who are not, both have their own motives and reasons for their beliefs, and I am not different. Biases exist in any opinion, and they become more evident in accordance to how controversial that opinion is, yet I will try my best to break down arguments to their core evidence to best formulate and improve my own opinion.
Obamacare has also helped women and reproductive care immensely. The ACA requires that mammograms, colonoscopies, prenatal care, and birth control be covered. Prior to the ACA only 12 percent of insurance plans offered maternity coverage and women paid approximately $1 billion more than men each year for the same health plans. Reproductive and prenatal care could become unaffordable for many women with the repeal of Obamacare, and on top of that companies could potentially charge women more for coverage or deny them all together.
In 2014, the US entered into the force sensational health care reform of the protection of patients in the United States, which is called The Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act. Under this reform, all the citizens and residents of the country are required to have health insurance. It has also caused many discussions and opinions among people. Supporters of it say that this is a significant step forward, since there is no company that can refuse a person in the insurance policy. However, opponents believe that this reform will only worsen the condition of the Americans. The current health care reform has its drawbacks, such as increased fees for insurance, and the impossibility of choice, therefore, it is necessary for change.
In 1993 First lady Hillary Clinton was assigned to a proposal to reform healthcare with the goal to become universal by US president Bill Clinton, this reform was titled Task Force on National Health Care Reform (Boundless, n.d.). At that time, 37 million Americans did not have health insurance and the cost to obtain health insurance was very unaffordable to the middle class (Boundless, n.d.). The main purpose of this reform was to mandate employers to provide health coverage to all employees HMOs’. However, this reform was aggressively opposed by the health insurance industry, libertarians, and conservative republicans stating that it was restrictive to the employees choice (Boundless, n.d.). Additionally, they argued that the proposal a
The HEAL for Immigrant Women and Families Act of 2017 is seeking to expand access to health care services from the Affordable Care Act (ACA) to lawful permanent residents (green card holders) and Deferred Action for Childhood Arrival (DACA) program recipients (H.R. 2788, 2017). The act is intended to break down barriers for women and their families by expanding the definition of “lawfully present” instituted under the Social Security Act in the Medicaid-Section 1903. By amending subparagraph (A) to expand the definition of “lawfully present” to include “such an individual who is granted deferred action or other federally authorized presence other than as a nonimmigrant” (H.R. 2788, 2017). Currently, from the 6.5 million lawful non-citizen women in the US from the ages of 15 to 44, 36% are uninsured in comparison to the 11% uninsured naturalized citizens and 10% the US-born citizen women in the same category (Guttmacher Institute , 2016). When taking a closer look at these women, researchers found that 51% live below the federal poverty level (FDL) and are often ineligible for health care programs such as Medicaid (Guttmacher Institute , 2016). By expanding the definition in the subparagraph (A) of the Social Security Act of 1903, it would expand eligibility for all federally funded health care programs through the ACA and cause the five-year gap to be
The year 1776 ignited the colonial rebellion from Great Britain, with colonists from the newly formed United States demanding their individual and colony’s rights. They advocated for representation, their individual rights, and the issue of sovereignty. With the ratification of the Bill of Rights in 1791, individual rights overall were thought to be “protected” in the newly liberated Unites States. Yet the continued limiting of women’s rights, treatment of the mentally handicapped and emancipated slaves, the individual liberties colonists believed they would gain from Britain was only for certain individuals, not all. The colonists believed that they would advance their individual rights and freedoms with their independence from Britain; though the reality was that the struggles of individual liberties continued throughout the next 100 years in different classes of citizens despite their gaining of independence from Britain.
The Affordable Care Act might be the best thing in American history for women’s health. The new law gave over 19 million uninsured women health coverage. Women overall are more intact with the health system than men because the majority takes care of their families. Women are usually on the forefront at doctor offices and hospitals with their children, making appointments for their spouse and for those who assist with their parents, they are the one scheduling and doing paperwork for
A newest way to finance health care now days is the health care reform which it is also called Obama Care. The Affordable Care Act was signed into law in 2010. The main objective behind the Affordable Care Act was to ensure that affordable health care insurance was available to every U.S citizen. This law is an extensive document that contains many regulations and laws that relate not only to health care but also to the regulation of insurance companies. One of the best known regulations is that group health plans can no longer put limitations or deny benefits to individuals under the age of 19 due to pre-existing conditions and individuals under the age of 26, are now eligible to be covered under their parents’
The US pays twice as much yet lags other wealthy nations in such measures as infant mortality and life expectancy, which are among the most widely collected, hence easily compared, international statistics. Many people are underinsured, for example, in Colorado "of those with insurance for a full year, 36.3% were underinsured."[6][7] About 10.7 million insured Americans spend more than a quarter of their annual paychecks on health care because of the high deductible polices.[8]
US health care is one of the most talked about or controversial topics in last few years. We often come across debates, articles or columns relating to this topic. This is a hot topic of this generation. Why everyone should have insurance? Why people should have for something that might not use? These are some of the questions we found ourselves surrounding by. In my opinion US citizens should be required to have insurance. Both men and women have separate needs when it comes to health. More women are facing health issues because of teen pregnancies and child birth, it is important to for everyone to have a health care plan according to their needs. So when the time comes right treatment and medical attention can be provided. In this piece I will be presenting some ideas and arguments supporting my side and also looking at the flip side of the discussion.
Health care reforms is one of the biggest issue for voters. With our aging population, complexity of illness and growing cost of health care, the government need a new approach to delivery of health care system. There is still a large population that are uninsured. There is mounting recognition that our country’s health system is greatly influenced by social determinants, socio-economic status, and environmental
Gender-based analysis is a critical component of reforming Canada’s health system as it helps policymakers understand disparities in health status, how health and illness are experienced and how men and women access and interact with the health system (Health Canada, 2003). Today’s health care system does not take gender into account because it does not considers the kinds of care and support that women define as important to their health and well-being.
Women are automatically thought of and treated differently because of how their bodies function, while men embrace their bodies and tend to flaunt due to the lack of advertisement. There is a public image of how women’s menstruation is “seen as smelly, taboo, and distasteful.” Ads in women’s and men’s magazines differ greatly. These show the differences in how women and men are thought about regarding their hygiene.
Abortion has been one of the hottest topics concerning women’s health care and reproductive rights. Tune into any presidential debate and you’ll notice candidates spending as much time discussing the topic as immigration, foreign policy, climate change, and gun control. There are a lot of misconceptions about the pro-choice movement but it can be explained in very simple terms. Being pro-choice does not mean pro-abortion, it simply means accepting that women have the choice to choose what they do with their bodies, not the government or anyone else. I believe strongly in this issue and believe that we should look at our past and not go back to a time where women did not have the same rights as men over their bodies. We are trying to become equal, not return to an era of submission. No man or government should have the power to control a women’s body; every person has a right to his/her own body. Abortion should be kept an easy, accessible, safe, and legal option for all women regardless of beliefs. We should be taking strides forward toward equality, not steps back. In the mid-twentieth century, second wave feminists saw major struggles of women and sought to radically improve and change the security of women and reproductive rights. We have fought hard for many of the rights we have today, but everyday we are challenged by those who want to oppose and erase our efforts.
