Over the course of history, gender inequalities have been a prevalent issue amongst countries around the world. The notion, women are inferior to men has shaped their treatment in all aspects of life. Women were subjected to a patriarchal role in society, the men worked and women took care of domestics to some degree greater or lesser depending the country they resided in. In the late 19th and early 20th century women started rising up against male dominated societies in feminist movements. These movements were campaigns and reform plans to combat issues of equal pay, sexual violence, and denial of suffrage, reproductive rights, equal job opportunities and property rights. Thus observing women in Great Britain and Saudi Arabia today one can see how the role women play in society has dramatically changed from 1800s till now.

As you walk down the street today, what do you notice about the people around you? Maybe there’s a white male, an Asian female, and a Latin male. Other than visual cues, there is no indication that there are any differences between one person or another. Any one person, whether black, white, male, or female, can enter any establishment, get a job, buy a piece of land, or vote in an election. However, this has not always been the case. Most of these people at one point or another had limited rights in the United States. Specifically, in the 1800’s, women had limited rights, especially after marriage. Once a woman was wed, she was no longer able to take in her own wages, sign a contract, or own any property. What were the rights that women were lacking, and where do we stand on those issues now? Have we come as far as we think we have with women’s rights? We have a widespread misconceived notion that women have equal rights, but we still have a ways to go. On the surface, it seems that we are all equal finally. However, there are still issues that are still being argued after over 150 years of being in front of our government.

People were not only discriminated due to their race but some of their gender, which affected their political rights in a multitude of ways. To illustrate, one of the Colonies most unspoken laws, dating from Ancient Greece to 1920, is that women have no right to vote and that only the gentry could contribute in political matters according to the Governor. Additionally, a law from Great Britain in stated that if a landowning woman is to marry, she must sign a document stating she is giving her property to the husband. This shows that in the 16th century, people thought women were generally inferior to men and treated them as such politically.

Imagine if you couldn’t play or watch your favorite sport, you had to clean and cook for your entire family, or if you didn’t get paid as much money from your job as your fellow co-workers. Women have always being treated like they are smaller than men. Throughout all of the world’s history, men and government have treated women with harsh laws and bias statements. Women couldn’t vote in government activities, participate in community events, couldn’t play sports, and were treated like slaves in their own home.

The fact that females were previously, and still are, denied human rights is quite frankly unjust and discriminatory on every level. The equality of all genders is fundamental in bridging the divide that originated many centuries ago. I feel as though it is important for all to comprehend the fact that women, in general, are just as qualified as men. Women deserve to have the same benefits that men have been granted from the beginning, especially after ongoing boycotts and fights for equality. Groups of women known as suffragists questioned the customary views of women’s roles. Eventually our nation has evolved and realized that male-controlled societies suppress women’s rights. Many women suffer around the world and have trouble gaining equal rights. Countries such as: Iran (where women have to cover their face and legs), Saudi Arabia (where women can not be in public without their face covered), and France (where you can not cover your face in public), have strict rules about what clothing women can wear (Bruce-Lockhart) (Kim). Women have been suffering and fighting for rights around the world for centuries. Some of the many major issues that they fought for or are still fighting for now are the right to vote, the political and economical power the women are limited to, and the right to and education.

Women are not absent minded as some may have thought, they came fully prepared to expect the worst, but that did not mean they knew all the consequences soon to come. To begin with, Macbeth's ambition led him to be easily influenced. The three witches were the first to fool Macbeth. According to the play, they told him he would be king, and they told Banquo - Macbeth's friend - that his kids would also be kings. Macbeth let the prospect of becoming king and gaining power go to his head, as he recounted the witches prophecy throughout the text. On the other hand, Banquo didn't let ambition control his actions negatively, nor allow him to trust and believe every thing he's told. He is then influenced by his wife who makes a plan to usurp the king. Although his conscience knows murdering the king and and others is wrong, he commits his crimes anyway because of his wife's influence on him. Too add on, the play goes on to say, he went to visit the witches. He is very concerned and paranoid about those plotting to take his position as king away from him. They witches tell him "...none of woman born, shall harm Macbeth." Macbeth once again ignores any possible half-truths from them, and is instead overjoyed and relieved. He feels invincible, and his ambition leads him to be cocky that he will live long. The witches have Macbeth wrapped around their pinkies, because he trusts them. They're manipulating him and his ambition is clouding his judgement. They know how set his heart was about
