The women activists of the era in the early 1900-1920s have provided awareness into the problems of the progressive era and also into the role of women as it was changing in public life. In the early 1900s, America was confronted with the effects of industrialization that was occurring, the growing importance of economic power, and urbanization of the cities, and a high rate of new immigrants. The changes mentioned above created fears especially in women that traditional values were being lost because wealth was more important. The was a growing desire among the women in society to change the negative effects of industrialization and to convince the government to care more about the social well-being of the people which was eventually known
The new republic of the 1830s-1850s was a society that devalued the role of women. By comparing men and women against each other, giving men a superior status, making their differences more evident, and allowing men to demand more rights, to think and do freely, this society has been created to view women as less than. Women are viewed as the weaker vessel and property to their father, or husband that need to be protected and should be wifely, child bearing, motherly and dedicated to their homes instead of viewing women as their own beings.
The years Two thousand and fourteen (2014) to eighteen (2018) reminds those who attended a great war. These years commemorate the 100th anniversary for the event that occurred in 1914 to 1918. Australia and its allies fought for our nations to ensure that it would turn out to be what our country is now. At the time all of the men were sent to war at the; Western Front, Eastern Front and Gallipoli this left the women at home whether they were mothers, widowed or single, this left a lot to do for these women left back at home and also offering their services first handedly to the soldiers. The memory of these brave women are but only magnificent.
In the early 1800's, many of the women in the United States were coming to realize that they wanted to obtain more rights. The male gender had way more rights than women, and they had run more things than women. Finally, women began to come forward to voice their opinions about how men and women are made to be equal; no less, no more. It was now time for women to go out and pursue whatever they wanted to pursue and not have to worry about the fact that they are females or that they are weaker or have less education than a man. The Seneca Falls Convention would soon be one of the biggest victories for women's rights.
Over the course of history, women have fought and struggled to gain independence and rights for themselves. Starting all the way back at the beginning of time it has seemed to be that men have always been more superior than women. This co-existing issue has made women bundle down to the bottom of the “social ladder” which refrained them from freedom. Beginning back in the early 1800’s before laws and amendments were made women had close to no rights or freedoms. As the 1800’s went on several movements and marches started to happen as change did as well.
American Women in the era of 1890 through 1925 had a difficult time getting and having opportunities due to the preconceived notions made of them. Women made drastic changes during this time period, industrialism and the war had a lot to do with it but politically and economically their rights were not yet given to them, Although women were as intelligent as men they did not earn the equal rights as to men.
Women in America in the late 1800’s were treated poorly because they did not have any rights to an education or equal marriage, and they eventually started to refute back to overcome the stereotypes men gave women. Women started going to college, getting divorces, and taking stands against men for their rights. The late 1800’s for women was a life changing time. Women were fighting against what society holds of them. “At the Centennial International Exhibition in Philadelphia in 1876, there was a Women's Building that displayed items of art, crafts, and inventions by women; this represented an early achievement in the feminist struggle for suffrage and equal rights” (Manning 2013). Women were not just stay at home mothers and housewives. They represented that they can make something of themselves just as men do.
In the early 1800s, women were second-class citizens. Women were expected to restrict their area of interest to the home and the family. Women were not encouraged to have a real education or pursue a professional career. Also, women were considered unequal to their husbands and all males legally and socially. The day-to day lives of men and women were quite clearly divided during the late 1800s. Woman in the late 1800s were treated inhumane because of society, class, and their rights.
Being a woman in a male dominated society quickly became exhausting for those who wanted more out of life than to be a wife or a mother. Although, a domesticated lifestyle for some seems ideal it’s only natural for women to want different things such as success in a work environment or a marriage not occupied by children. Before the 1890s the United States was focused on the issue of slavery and trying to figure out whether it should be abolished or not. For this reason, feminists were silenced and swept up underneath the rug and it wasn't until the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments when women really started pursuing their rights. During this historical time period, women were confused as of why “savages” were give the right to vote while, white,
A lot hasn't changed in regards to women , technology and so on. In the 1920s women were seen as house wives although there were some pushing towards changes in their lives and society. Women now work outside the home, attend colleges and institutions and have the rights to vote. Women now have total control of themselves and the choices they make just like back in the days. Technology like radio, refrigerators, vacuum cleaners and so on have advance due to the invention in the 1920s and has made great changes in the lives of people. People now work 8hrs a day and can take a two weeks vacation to travel or spend time with their family. Credit loans is made available now to everyone and cars also. Sporting events also provide pleasure,
The history in the 1800s was really rough then now days because they had the Nez Perce war going on and at the same time, we had problems with woman not being able to vote, and the Immigrants were all looking for jobs. As I said earlier about women not being able to vote was a big step back for woman, not so much for men as they didn’t want women to vote. As the author said in the 1840s, emerging from the broader movement for women's rights”(w.i.t.p.n.). Woman were treated imperfect towards men all because they were a different gender, which is unacceptable back in the 1840s and would be now if it happened because we should all be treated the the same and have the same rights. As it says in the text “In order to earn revenue from their land
practical styles, or swept back pompadours (an elaborate hairstyle, where long hair is swept up into a tall arrangement of curls or smooth waves on the top of the hair)” .
The 1920s was a decade full of challenges, opportunities, and new outlooks on the world for American women. They experienced drastic changes in politics, education, and even within their own homes. The “new women” were independent, confident, and no longer afraid to fight for their rights. Being isolated in their own homes, getting married and having children was no longer the only option, and many women chose different life paths, whether it would be pursuing a career, getting involved with the politics, or joining the feminist movement. The twenties was also a period of careless fun and casual relationships for many women as the society’s view on what was appropriate slowly changed. However you look at it,
The 1920’s was the year where a lot of changes happened for Americans. It was many years that caused social tension between rural and urban areas. There were also changes with culture, economy, music, women’s clothing, sexual behaviors, and labor. One of the changes that occurred was women’s freedom.
behind the job. Women of higher class had laborious work to do, although one of the
The Reforming 20’s Have you ever felt because of your gender that you don’t receive the same opportunities as others? If so, then you can probably relate to how women felt prior to the 1920s. Before this era, women were subjected to criticism, prejudice, and harsh judgment if they did anything that went against the ideals of the Victorian woman. A Victorian woman was seen as a domestic woman who was subordinate to her husband and society for that matter. However, women became tired of being treated this way, and in the 1920’s, women started to move towards liberty.
