Woman Of Tomorrow: Mentor And Scholarship Program

I have had the pleasure of getting to know Jessica Miller this year through a program at Cedarville University called Big/Little. It is a mentorship program where an upper classman is paired with an underclassman and simply offers accountability, discipleship, and support. Through getting to know Jessica this year, I have been able to see her heart for minorities.

Women want a chance to feel safe, to explore the world, without fear of being punished or put down. Women have often been considered the weaker sex, but not any more. The National Organization for Women, also known as NOW, is a public feminist organization that was founded in 1966. NOW’s goal as a national organization is to educate the world on the economic inequalities surrounding women, along with the rising amounts of crimes committed against women that go unnoticed. In the novel, Half the Sky: Turning Oppression into Opportunity for Women Worldwide, written by authors Nicholas D. Kristof and Sheryl WuDunn in 2009, these two call attention to the oppression of women. These authors label the incidents that occur throughout our world involving women oppression as an epidemic of our generation. The novel demonstrates the severity of sex trafficking, sexual violence, and lack of education of women that are seen amongst us. There exists many relations of opportunities concerning educational and professional studies among the women portrayed in the novel and myself. Although, related opportunities are seen, the underlying severity of what these women endure to reach those opportunities are much more challenging than mine.

In my honest opinion, I believe this program is the first stepping stone on my path to great things. In order to fulfill all of my dreams, it is necessary to formulate a plan now for the challenges that lie ahead of me. The S.T.E.M. program

On the NOW (National Organization for Women) website, the first thing my eyes are drawn to are the pictures presented in slideshow on the main page. Most of the pictures show women holding posters, some declaring their love for their chosen method of contraception; others are stating justice for women. Another picture advertises a NOW conference in New Orleans during the summer. It seems the NOW website deals with issues concerning domestic policy.

We are finally at the end of the program that I waited so long to be a part of .This program was a great opportunity for me to get out of remedial classes. I strongly believe that this program has benefitted me in many ways, physically, mentally, and socially.

More importantly, this program would challenge those beliefs by helping me move out of the comfort zone and becoming more self-aware of all I have to offer. Roles that I have filled in the past, made me wish that I had some professional training and mentors to lean on when the decisions were difficult or rather assurance in my abilities.

Today's feminist movement is in jeopardy of losing a following unless the woman at the forefront begin to identify with the fact that not every feminist is white, middle class, and cis-gendered. The modern idea of feminism has a fault in the way that its main idea seems to be fighting for equality of white women, this factor neglects every other woman in the world. This sets a double standard within the grouping of women as a whole just as women are fighting to abolish double standards set in place against sexes. This idea of white feminism simultaneously neglects the different problems of women of all demographics, while also grouping women together as a whole as if the struggles white women face are the same struggles all women face.

In both the novel and the film, the community has been represented by use of different features. Some of the features are common both to the novel and the film, while in some cases, differences exist between the two. To start with, the character names in both the movie and the original novel are similar. In both cases the characters are; Victor Frankenstein who is the main character in the novel and narrates most part of the novel while he plays a crucial role in the film. He was a student of science and was able to invent the secret of life and through this knowledge creates a creature that horrifies him. Part of American culture dwells on sports. It’s hard not to think of America without considering of football or baseball. Athletics are a dominant aspect in high school, with a substantial amount of teens playing high school sports. They are a fundamental for countless youth around the nation. Team high school sports are valuable to growth, since they provide an opportunity to create friends, and encourage sportsmanship. Nevertheless, some would say they create an overemphasis on winning. However, this is only in the minds of coaches and parents. By winning, teens learn how to be a good sport and be humble in victory, and if they lose, how to cope with defeat.

I’m just glad I got involved in the program when I did. If I would have been deferred from it as I was in elementary school, I’m afraid I wouldn’t be as aspiring, goal oriented, and I wouldn’t be writing this essay. I was luckily put into the program in my school, but what about the student who was denied to chance to learn at the level they deserved so I could have that chance. That is why more resources need to be applied to higher ability programs so no student gets denied an education that both challenges them and expands their
