For our windshield survey we decided to assess the city of Melbourne on a Friday afternoon, the day after summer vacation began. It was a nice sunny yet breezy afternoon, the children and some of their families were outside walking the streets, sitting on the porch and playing in the park. While assessing the city I noticed that the area was a low income community and consist of apartments as well as homes that are in need of cosmetic work. In the neighborhood that I assessed, I noticed that there is one park which has minimal lighting as well as upkeep. The park resides in a big area right across from one of the local churches in the neighborhood. Near the area you also have the local library which is free to the community. It has a huge assortment …show more content…
This type of advertisement may be the wrong advertisement this community needs. When it comes to schools, I noticed that the area had one elementary school. The elementary school parking lot was empty due to school being out but I did notice school buses still running. I wasn’t certain if it was for summer school or for transportation for church group functions. In the area I have noticed multiple small churches. They also had community worship centers which took place inside of apartment complexes. These local worship centers advertised on the board of the school library as well as on the windows of some of the local convenient stores. Some of the churches in the neighborhood also aid in reaching out to the families who are in need of food. They have certain hours that they are open to where families can come in and obtain food for free for their families. It is on a first come first serve basis and there is a limit. They neighborhood also has a recreational area for those children who are into sports or other activities and want to better themselves in that area during the
The boundaries of the windshield surveys consisted of the north to south areas located between The Gateway Park and 16th street, and west to east areas between 4th avenue and Arizona. This location is often referred to as “Historic Yuma” or “Old Yuma” and contains many historical buildings.
Housing and Zoning Crowded, lots of brick and cement; few parks, cars parked very closely together on street. Some areas show severe urban blight.
This is what tax dollars should be used for, improvements for the city and all the people of the city, not just
Often it is that this process of public involvement is tiresome but more than often it is an essential part of the development of open spaces and green areas. Parks support community engagement by providing residents with a venue for participation in and

The City of Sanford initiated work on their Parks and Grounds City Project in 2004 with the development of Phase I of said project in an effort to create and build a better community for city residents. In doing so, they have been privy to obtaining various grants and funding that allowed them to extend the focus on the project to the Riverwalk and Seawall, while extending the phases of the Program to Street Revitalization, the Riverwalk Gateway, the Marketplace at Seminole Towne Center, and soon the Orlando Sanford International Airport. This document will note the cost-benefit analysis that took
Vacant Lot Restoration Program is a comprehensive plan to specifically address vacant lots by engaging residents and organizations in their sustainable revitalization by helping underserved, inner-city residents green their communities and restore vacant lots by creating neighborhood gardens and green spaces, planting street trees, and establishing tree nurseries (Parks & People Foundation, 2002). These efforts were initially undertaken in collaboration with the City Department of Recreation and Parks and funded by Baltimore City Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD). The program was officially established through an agreement between the Parks & People Foundation (PPF) and DHCD to assist communities’ neighborhood Service in managing vacant open space through adopting the lot Program. All the agenesis will be defined later in this paper.

Introduction- The East Bay area is an economically diverse community with many satisfactory and unsatisfactory aspects. Each city had its differences and distinctions in people, settings, and cleanliness. As the bus left the station and went around the corner I could tell that we were in a low poverty city. With loose trash and debris in front of houses and apartment buildings, the area looked torn down and not very visual pleasing. Already familiar with the city of Emeryville I knew to expect a more upscale location. With plenty of name brand stores, and new apartment complexes, it was obvious this city was clean and very different from the previous location. As the bus

There is a little legend library outside of the community’s church Iglesia de los Hechos. During the summer the church serves around 300 hundred children every week and throughout the school year. Since this community is distant from services such as the public library and not many have cars to take their children to the nearest library. Having this in place is a great strength for the children and others in this community, it gives the children a sense of ownership and responsibilities. They are able to expand their knowledge by having access to these books, instead of just spending summers wondering the streets and possible getting into trouble. This also gives the families that cannot afford daycare a place that will take care of their children with in their budget while they go to work. Iglesia de los Hechos offer this community daily summer school services, even during the school year. There is also a playground in front of the church were the pastor has built a playground for the kids in the community to have some place to enjoy themselves, because they don’t have anything else available with in there community. Building a playground in the community has created a resource that children didn’t have access to before. Iglesia de los Hechos and its pastor Juan Moreno bring in outside assets to the community of Indian hills. Indian hills demographics indicate that this community is in need of help. There has been to health fairs held at the Iglesia de los Hechos church in Indian hills. I was able to be apart of the second health fair and register residents from Indian hills as they came inside the church. During the health fair residents are able to get their vision, blood pressure monitoring, hearing test, immunizations, diabetes education sessions and dental assessments. Pastor Moreno stated, here in the Valley, we see a lot of people who don’t have the resources to go see
The convenience of living in an urban or suburban neighborhood can be appealing to many people. Choosing between areas can sometimes be overwhelming for some individual. People are not only concerned about the safety of a community, but they are also concerned about the environment. Although some neighborhoods might look attractive, people should consider the expense that comes with it, and how commuting will affect them in the long run. Nevertheless, both neighborhoods have their specific advantages and disadvantages. When choosing between an urban or suburban neighborhood, it is important for people to research the community, the expense, and convenience
