Assignment 1: IT Consultation for Mr. Green
Due Week 6 and worth 100 points
You are a private computer consultant. Anew client, Mr. Green, has approached you to offer general IT consultation to his small business. Mr. Green’s business is currently not networked. However, his business is growing substantially and he is thinking about becoming networked. His IT infrastructure, as small as it is, consists of several stand-alone machines installed with Windows 7 Home Premium.
Write a two to three (2-3) page paper in which you

Green experiment with Windows 7 Ultimate without requiring a commitment to it.
Once networked, Mr. Green’s staff will need to have constant access to shared files (even when the network goes down) and have the ability to quickly search the network for specific shared files. Staff will also require seamless access to the cloud if the network goes down. Also, the network administrator that Mr. Green hires will need to quickly create Group Policy Objects (GPOs) and use tools to quickly troubleshoot potential IT issues. Mr. Green asks you if these things will be a concern with Windows 7.
6. List and describe the features of Windows 7 Ultimate that can provide all of this functionality, if existent.
Several years have passed, you are still providing networking consultation to Mr. Green, and his business has successfully grown into an enterprise running a Windows Server 2008 network. You need to install Windows 7 Enterprise and required updates, applications, etc. on a few dozen computers. Mr. Green has a computer with Windows 7 Enterprise and applications he uses for his business installed to use as a model for the computers he wants on his network.
7. Explain three (3) migration strategies that should be used in this scenario and how they differ from how you performed stand-alone installations of Windows 7 Ultimate a few years back.
For legacy testing purposes, a user requires two (2) different Windows-based operating systems
Another issue that issue that is hindering the speed and efficiency on the network is the fact that all the host systems being used within all the sites are Windows 98. These systems are well over ten years old and are in dire need of an upgrade. To Windows 7 would provide the ability for the employees to use the most powerful sales tools on the market. This will enhance the ability to view real time inventory stats while making sure that all the shelves are stock and profits are maximized.
There are various types of equipment that the company should look for when considering this network. The first item to look at when considering equipment is the Operating system and software that we would need. Next, the group took into consideration the type of server the company needs to make this network a reality. Another thing that we looked at is the possibility of having ThinClients over regular desktops for all workstations. Of course, it was taken into consideration that some employees would not want ThinClients. So, we show the type of tower we plan to place into those spaces, along with any peripheral device for both. Then, we will look at the network devices that will go into each building that include switches, routers, repeaters, hubs, and wireless access points. Finally, the group will note guidelines for choosing a local ISP at each site. Each Item outlined helps to build a network based on the specifications given by the company.
The network consists hardware and software components and other components to keep the company safe. A common network that Jay’s company will need are routers, switches, firewalls, load balancers, SANs, and Domain Name System (DNS). The router and switches will allow the systems to communicate. Jay needs to ensure that the routers have spare capacity after the deployment to cope with projected growth and usage. The switches will connect to the system within the network. Both running at capacity tend to induce escalating bottlenecks. This will affect how long it takes for the clients to submit messages to the servers on different networks, Jay needs to make sure he is up to date with the router and switch because it can cost greatly if he does not.
For increased performance and security a Server Core installation will be performed on all the servers. Once the servers are up and running everything can be configured by remoting into the server from your desktop. By doing this you will also be able to administer Active Directory and all other services running on the servers using a GUI making it easier to configure versus only the power shell / command prompt available in a server core environment. For efficiency and to save money only the first server, WAI Serv1, will be deployed manually and will have the Windows Deployment Service (WDS) installed onto it. WDS will allow us to remotely install the remaining servers and operating systems on all the devices by using an image file. Using WDS we can automate the process of installing Windows Server 2012, Windows 8, and even earlier versions of Windows operating systems (Server Roles).
The church required that the workstations be replaced as they are no longer supported by the hardware manufacturer. The workstations operating Windows XP can no longer receive a software patch and are no longer supported by Microsoft. These workstation are extremely vulnerable to attack. Wireless connectivity through the church campus was a requirement as the church was to be able to access information from multiple locations. Setting up hardware to maintain and secure all data and information. The sponsor liked our team’s suggestion to migrate them from a peer to peer network environment to a server domain environment. With all of these upgrades and updates, network security needed to be addressed so the installation and setup of a firewall became a requirement. The
Kudler fine foods is looking to implement a new system that will allow them to be more efficient in their expansion. Their current network system architecture that Kudler uses is a setup of a 56K modem and a POS system that runs on an WIN9x that is connected to an Ethernet Network. The three locations use the same network setup that runs on Novell 4.11 server and have separate computer with Windows NT server, IIS 4 server and have separate computer with Windows NT server, IIS 4 and still uses dial up that all their computers link up to.
2. What two basic methods capture an image of a Windows Server 2008 computer by using the tools you installed in this lab?
2.) Windows 7 editions Windows 7, a major release of the Microsoft Windows operating system, was available in six different editions: Starter, Home Basic, Home Premium, Professional, Enterprise and Ultimate
What new Windows Server 2008 feature is a special installation option that creates a minimal environment for running only specific services and roles?
The company’s servers and most of their computers were purchased over a decade ago and are creating issues with the newer properties thin clients ability to communicate with the network. ULH’s servers are located within their headquarters in California and are still operating on Windows NT 3.51. The company wants to increase the manageability and performance of the network in addition to being able to infinitely upgrade the network as growth requires. Currently, ULH is in a position where their IT network is creating a bottle neck to their growth. The network was functioning sufficiently when they just had 2 properties all operating on the same outdated operating systems, however acquisition of newer properties has created many issues with network functionality.
Include suggestions for the future use of collaborative software and how it can help the sales
DesignIT is a graphic arts company that is expanding business and has recently purchased a new building 56’*36’ space for the purpose of housing two full time designers and a receptionist. The new building has four cubicles, one office, one server room, one reception desk, and a conference room. DesignIT has already relocated one Web Server (Microsoft IIS Server), one File Server (Microsoft Server 2008), and one more Server 2008 (Small Business Server). As a network design consultant, I have been charged with the task of designing and configuring the network for DesignIT. The small company has informed me that the network should
Windows 7 like all other versions before has with sub versions of its operating system. Theses sub versions include W7 Starter, W7 Home Basic, W7 Home Premium, W7 Professional, W7 Enterprise, and W7 Ultimate. These are all sub versions of W7 that have their key features as well as their requirements.
Here is a brief description of how the system functions. Overall, our system has a software part. Every patient is provided a unique id against their registration where their details are stored. Readings from the patient by the help of health worker are also stored into central database by using android application . We need the service of an experienced health worker to monitor all these activities. The software part comprises of two applications: an android mobile application and a windows desktop application. Application is designed in such a way that it raises notifications or send sms/email to the health worker and doctor if the input readings lie in critical ranges. This helps the health worker to take further measures. Windows desktop application also provide facility to directly store diagnosis report of the patient to the central database by the pathodology and helps doctor to view all the values measured corresponding to each patient’s details against its id. This helps the doctor to identify complexities associated with the fetus and thus helps the doctor in providing a more accurate diagnosis. He can provide his feedbacks and report for each patient which will be stored back into the central database. By using the Windows desktop application, the health worker can directly view the doctor feedback and further provide require diagnosis to the patient.
The networking of the system is recommended after a system study and the fact that there has been a 100% expansion of the demand for the system- from 5 to 50 have been noted. It is also shown that as of now there are machines that are stand alone with windows 7 operating system. The task is to provide a network connectivity that would provide direct connections between the employees, and be centralized in the operation. This essentially requires the creation of a network. This means that all the computers must be installed with a network card and this would be the case with windows 7. The question then comes is if there must be windows networking or use other protocols. We can also partly use the most modern practical solutions.
