According to our guest speaker, Kate Ogles, Windfall is not the many studios that offer adult dancing classes, and I think this definitely make Windfall become more unique. They provide a large variety of genres of dancing, such as ballet, jazz, hip-hop and etc. They also provide youth dancing classes along with the adult classes, and it does not matter whether they have dancing experiences or not. Windfall has existed for almost four decades, they moved to the current facility around 2006, which made them not in the BEAD district any more, and I remembered that one of my questions was did it affect the Windfall a lot by moving out from the BEAD. Kate Ogles told me that generally it did not hurt much, and since they had developed many different kinds of collaborations with other organizations, they had good reputations in the community and through working with different organizations, they were the roots of around fifty movements, such as IU swing dance and Ivy Tech also has their dance classes at Windfall. …show more content…
It is easily to find out that Windfall has contributed to the community a lot. Also, Kate Ogles gave us some background information about herself and how she got involved into the dancing organizations. She has been dancing for over 20 years and is still dancing now, which is very amazing! She had the experiences of teaching ballet classes before with pre-school and elementary students. She has been active on the board of Windfall for approximately 17 years. She told us that it definitely needed passion to get involved into the nonprofit organizations, and she also needed to be in charge of many different aspects of the organizations, and she definitely suggested us to take some business classes in order to be prepared of financial elements that we may face in the future when we work for nonprofit
I am a consultant for nonprofits, especially those focused in arts administration. The company I will be evaluating is Cane Shakes, which was founded by Marissa Galletti and Nick Napoli. This touring company’s main office is located in El Paso, Texas. Cane Shakes focuses on bringing Shakespeare’s comedic work into retirement homes. They also hold performing arts classes for the communities they visit.
AmeriSouth argued that cost-segregation study allocates $65,381 of Garden House's depreciable basis to “site preparation and earthwork,” depreciable over 15 years as a land improvement is allowable because it is a “site development,” but nowhere does it describe what work is included in this category. On the other hand, the Commissioner's expert claims that work papers show the expenses relate to the initial clearing and grubbing (i.e., tree removal) of the land which occurred before the apartments' construction in 1970.
I would like to focus on one non-profit organization that has been doing very well in the recent years. The name of the organization is St Jude Research Hospital, which deals with the cure and treatment of children suffering from catastrophic diseases. In the five decades, it has been operational, the mortality rate has gradually reduced therefore saving lots of lives. St Jude started its operations in 1962. Danny Thomas was the one who started the organization and was helped by two other close friends (Pui, Pei, Pappo, Howard, Cheng, Sandlund and Gajjar, 2012).
As a relatively new organization, WVMPHP is faced with the challenge of developing their donor base by educating them on their mission and goals. There are several strategies WVMPHP can leverage to develop an informed business donor base. Creating a fundraising committee under the board of directors or hiring a part-time staff member to secure business donations. WVMPHP will need to establish responsible individuals for the purpose of seeking charitable donations. Special events like a gala or dinner can yield high revenue returns and the opportunity to educate the community about WVMPHP. Other fundraising strategies to explore are direct mail or personal

The two most pressing issues that Greenhill Community Center Face are communication and fundraising. The most important thing in organizational structure is communication. John Carver, created a governance model back in 1997, said there were four areas that policy development should be based on and maintained for a board to lead. One of the areas is Board-Staff relationships. Carter stated that to clearly address common concerns about board members evaluating the CEO is to communicate directly with the staff or volunteers within the organization. (Worth, p.75) The relationship between the staff and board members of the Greenhill Community Center is strained and distant. Fundraising is an integral part of
The economic crisis of 2008 diminished many nonprofit revenues as less households provided philanthropic giving coupled with sparse funding from state and local agencies. During this economic turmoil, many people endured job loss, business failures, and home foreclosures. This unprecedented hardship created more need for the assistance of nonprofits. Because many nonprofits have different interest, creating partnerships and collaboration with other organization is quite a feat. Fortunately, the Coastal Community Foundation created a channel for donors to pool money together to donate to local nonprofits in the Coastal Bend area. Through the foundation’s Coastal Bend Day of Giving, donors contribute money during the one-day, internet-based
As for the issue of whether or not you should take out another mortgage in order to supplement the conversion of Certificate of Deposits into Municipal Bonds, again, I.R.C. §265(a)(2) comes into effect and disallows any interest deductions sought, thus, removing the profitable advantage offered though the interest rates. In similar situations, such as Wisconsin Cheeseman, Inc. v. United States, 388 F. 2d 420 (1968), the Court ruled against the taxpayer on the claim that the taxpayer was only allowed deductions on the interest of the indebtedness incurred prior to the purchase of the tax exempt investments, meaning that only the interest deductions on the new debt incurred was disallowed. In Wynn v. United States, 411 F. 2d 614 (1969), the taxpayer was also disallowed to claim any deduction for the interest payments on the loans he incurred from the bank, the purpose of which was to expand the amount of tax-exempt securities the taxpayer currently possessed. In Drybrough v. Commissioner, 376 F. 2d 350 (1967), that taxpayer also tries to deduct the interest payments on his leveraged mortgages in order to expand their tax-exempt investment fund, and again, the Court referred to I.R.C. §265(a)(2), which forbids such deductions on the basis that the sum of the interest paid was used to purchase tax exempt securities, thus ruling against the taxpayer. Although the Court’s ruled
At your request, the other members of the Ryerson Business Students Association committee and I, have researched and acquired information on three different charities around the area of the university to best identity which charity would be the most deserving of a donation. We have done this by collecting information from each organization and comparing them to see which charity best meets the set of criteria we have chosen.
Facts: Murray Taxpayer was previously employed by a company who was illegally dumping chemicals into a river. Murray had knowledge concerning these illegal activities of his employer and made an ethical decision to report this to the Environmental Protection Agency. Upon inspection, the Environmental Protection Agency determined that Murrays employer was in fact illegally dumping and was appropriately fined for the charges. Murray’s employer reacted to his whistleblowing by firing him and making deliberate efforts to prevent Murray from gaining employment elsewhere. Murray then sued his former employer for damaging
The elements of a board as a defining factor in the self-governance character of a nonprofit is affirmed by Worth (2014). For example, the “control of the nonprofit lies with a board of directors…who have overall responsibility to [care for and oversee] the organization” (Worth, 2014, p. 57). Big Brothers Big Sisters exemplifies volunteerism in both its history and present service practices. For example, the organization currently utilizes “400,000 volunteer mentors and families” (Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, 2016a, para. 3) to work with youth and facilitate the organizations critical programs and relationships (Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, 2016a). Big Brothers Big Sisters history is also reflective of volunteerism is critical role. To illustrate, in 1904 Ernest Coulter founded the Big Brothers movement with 39 volunteers, who each agree to befriend and mentor an individual youth (Big Brothers Big Sisters of America, 2016a). The statistical data from Big Brothers Big Sisters reveals that the organization have a tremendous impact on community individuals and therefore provides a public benefit through

The diversity of nonprofit organizations, services provided and the problems faced shows that nonprofits require leadership with an in-depth understanding of the multifaceted nonprofit landscape. Understanding the culture of nonprofit work is also crucial and much easier to understand once you have been through a nonprofit management program. My career interests lead me towards an avocation of a deeper knowledge of strategic management/planning, legal structure and standards, increase my skills in quantitative analysis of policy, financial governance and developing fundraising strategies. These areas allow for macro management within the nonprofit
