Pros and Cons of Wilmington University: An Insider’s Perspective If you are thinking of continuing your education at Wilmington University there are a lot of different aspects to consider. As a current Wilmington student, I would greatly encourage you to consider Wilmington as I believe it has MUCH to offer for Education majors. Not to say there aren’t bumps in the road; there have been obstacles and frustrations for a lot of education majors, but this document should help you navigate the cons and make the most of the pros should you decide that Wilmington is right for you. Cons: 1. The staff is not as friendly or as helpful as Del Tech The staff who work in the office can sometimes be quite rude and act as if they don’t want to help you. Blocks Most classes are on an 8 week block, with 7 weeks being for work and the 8th for “reading week” which basically means it’s a break between blocks or for make-up should something happen. The only classes that are a full semester are Practicum (discussed later) and a few other specialty classes (History of Math which is for math majors only, and maybe one other for Elementary Majors) 4. STAR If you are on Seed, chances are good that you’ll get STAR. STAR is a scholarship that covers HALF your tuition as long as you are a full-time student. There is not much information available about STAR but, as someone on it, I will tell you what I know later on in this document under the STAR section. I can tell you that, on average, a full class load cost about $4,400 at WilmU. With STAR, you’ll only be paying about $2,200. 5. Payment Plan Wilmington has a payment plan so that all this money is NOT due upfront! The payment plan cost about $20 extra, but you only have to pay about $800 or so every month depending on your total, scholarships, and such. 6.
