Williamsville Personal Statement

I am Carla Sittig and have taught for 19 years. I began my teaching career in Louisiana where my husband and I are originally from. We moved to Texas in 1998 and in 2006, Hurricane Rita prompted us relocate to Raleigh, North Carolina. We have lived in New Bern since 2008. My experience includes elementary, middle school science, publications, video productions, and school level tech facilitator. I served as a media coordinator for the past three years until moving into the role as a Digital Teaching and Learning Coach for Craven County Schools. My husband and I have two children. Our oldest attends ECU with only three semesters left and our youngest is a senior in high school.

I am a qualified Childcare Practitioner with 12 years’ experience, who would love the opportunity to embark on a career as a Primary Teacher. I am currently employed in a local authority pre-five nursery class within a Primary School. I aspire to become a teacher as I feel it will offer me new challenges and a chance to further develop my love of teaching. I am a dedicated worker and continually strive to provide high standards. I also promote confidence, respect and compassion to ensure all members of the nursery and school are respected.

The field of education sparks my interest and it is the field I would love to be working in, in the near future. The role of a teacher is a very important one and is one that is not suited for everyone. A teacher needs to respect students, create a sense of community and belonging in the classroom, be warm, accessible, enthusiastic, and caring. These are all qualities I hope to be acquiring with my experiences working with young children. Being in the school of education and human services here at PCTI has been a wonderful learning experience throughout the years.

I have always known that I wanted to make a difference in society by becoming a teacher, due to my love of children and helping people understand various topics. I have worked with children by babysitting, instructing karate, leading children’s Sunday school, and working at a summer camp. By doing these activities I have established bonds with diverse groups of children, but at the same time, I kept a professional and respectable boundary. I have successfully worked inside a planning department alongside people of all ages and personalities in planning activities and lessons for kids.

I am a highly qualified teacher with six years of experience in the classroom. I hold a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education, and currently seeking a Master degree in School Counseling. Over the past six years, I have been a primary classroom teacher which has allow me to gain many skills and experience that has helped me in the classroom.

I want to be an early childhood teacher to share more of these experiences, nurture and enable the children I teach to meet their full potential.

When I think about the reasons why I want to teach one reason always comes to mind. That look on the child’s face when they first see you each day. They are so happy to be there. They know that I will always be there for them. I offer them a sincere greeting and a caring environment. We joke, play, and learn together, all while making a unique connection. I love that the students teach me just as much as I will be teaching them. They teach me to live simple and stop worrying so much.

My name is Frederick Isler, I am 20 years old and I am currently enrolled in the Elementary Education bachelor program at Buffalo State College. I am a white male therefore I have never really faced many ethnically or sexually diverse situations where I was treated poorly or differently. I am a Roman Catholic and this set some of the stepping stones in many cases for certain views on things in life. I taught at the catholic program that my church offers for a couple years and am very involved with helping the youth in the parish. This is where I believe my love or passion for teaching came from. While being at the youth group I learned being involved in our community and helping out others truly lead to success in life. I believe that children are our future and deserve a voice and I strongly believe that it is the teachers who give the students the power to strengthen that voice with knowledge and education. I played sports growing up with two younger brothers, this gave me a competitive spirit that made me believe in myself in order to do things if I put my mind too it. I have coached basketball and softball for over four years and just recently won championships in both respected leagues, one being a youth basketball league and the other a church softball league. In my 24 years of experience employed with the Department of Education I have found that working with children watching as they grow is inspiring as much as it is rewarding. Teaching helps one to sharpen their skills on all levels for the curriculum is forever changing. Being an educator has its challenging moments but its something I want to accomplish. Ever since I was a little girl, I knew that in my future I wanted to become a teacher. I always looked up to my teachers, especially the ones I had in elementary school. I even played 'school' with my friends and pretended I had my own classroom. I loved being in charge. From the time I was a seven years old till the current day, as a Sophomore at Benedictine University, I have wanted to become a teacher. The four years of high school, Oswego High School, I truly become passionate to become a teacher. I took the necessary general education classes, and my elective classes learning about child development and early childhood education. Once I graduated high school, I felt confident to become a teacher, but I discovered that special education was what I truly wanted to do.
