William Shakespeare's Biography William Shakespeare (1564-1616): Though William Shakespeare is recognized as one of literature's greatest influences, very little is actually known about him. What we do know about his life comes from registrar records, court records, wills, marriage certificates and his tombstone. Anecdotes and criticisms by his rivals also speak of the famous playwright and suggest that he was indeed a playwright, poet and an actor. William was born in 1564. We know this from the earliest record we have of his life; his baptism which happened on Wednesday, April the 26th, 1564. In the Bard's case, the apple didn't fall far from the tree at all... William's mother was Mary Arden who married John Shakespeare in 1557. The youngest daughter in her family, she inherited much of her father's landowning and farming estate when he died. Since we know Stratford's famous Bard lived with his father, John Shakespeare, we can presume that he grew up in Henley Street, some one hundred miles northwest of London. Very little is known about literature's most famous playwright. We know that the King's New Grammar School taught boys basic reading and writing. We assume William attended this school since it existed to educate the sons of Stratford but we have no definite proof. Likewise a lack of evidence suggests that William, whose works are studied universally at Universities, never attended one himself! A bond certificate dated November the 28th, 1582, reveals that an eighteen year old William married the twenty-six and pregnant Anne Hathaway. Barely seven months later, they had his first daughter, Susanna. Anne never left Stratford, living there her entire life. Baptism records show that William's first child, Susanna was baptized in Stratford sometime in May, 1583. Baptism records again reveal that twins Hamnet and Judith were born in February 1592. Hamnet, William's only son died in 1596, just eleven years old. Hamnet and Judith were named after William's close friends, Judith and Hamnet Sadler. William's family
Shakespeare’s early life was spent in Stratford-Upon-Avon, UK. He was said to be born on April 23, 1564 and was the third child of John Shakespeare and Mary Arden ("Birth and Death of William Shakespeare Celebrated"). His birthday is widely speculated, because in the era of Shakespeare,
Shakespeare was born in Stratford-upon-Avon, and was baptized on 26 April 1564. John Shakespeare was his father who was a glove maker and wool merchant. On the other hand, his mother was Mary Arden, the daughter of a well to do landowner from Wilmcote. Shakespeare was the fourth of the eight children whereby only five of whom survived to maturity (Chedgzoy n.p). He grew up in a small English Market town located hundred miles north-west of London that was along the River Avon banks.
William Shakespeare was born to John Shakespeare and Mary Arden, a shoemaker and a daughter of an affluent farmer in 1564. He was born on April 23, and baptised two days later. William attended the local grammar school, the King's Scchool. He was born and lived in a smal town called Stratford-upon-Avon about 100 miles west of London. William Shakespeare had a very different life than I thought. He was born on April 23rd, 1564 in Stratford-upon- Avon, England. His parents were Mary Arden and John Shakespeare, and he was one of eight children. Joan was the eldest and died at the age of two months, Margaret was alive for one year, William lived to be 52, Gilbert was 46 years old, Joan (number 2) lived to be 77 years of age, Anne died at 8, Richard died at 39, and the youngest, Edmund, lived to be 27. When William Shakespeare was just 13 he had to discontinue his education to help his father, who was a glove maker. They weren’t a very rich family and they did struggle at times. When he was going to college, he attended King Edward VI School and married Anne Hathaway in 1588 when he was 18 years old and she was 26. They had three children together, Susanna, Judith, and Hamnet. Susanna was the first born in 1583, and Judith and Hamnet are twins who were born in 1585. Three of the eight children died during childhood. William's parents were John Shakespeare, a glover and leather merchant, and Mary Arden, a local landed heiress. William Shakespeare's next documented event in his lifetime was the marriage to Anne Hathaway on November 28, 1582. William was 18 at the time and Anne was 25, seven years his senior. There was some haste in arranging the ceremony, presumably as Anne was three months pregnant.
William Shakespeare was their third. William Shakespeare attended Elizabethan Grammar School. There he learned Latin and Greek. He became acquainted with the plays of Plautus and Terence. His stimulation to read and explore the world of ancient and modern history would eventually help him, when utilizing his knowledge in his plays. Two years later, February 2, 1585, the twins Hamlet and Judith were born. After the birth of the twins, there were no records of William Shakespeare's life. Many scholars call this period the "lost years." It is believed that he arrived in London in the 1580s and found work as a horse attendant at some of the London's finer Theaters. By 1592, William Shakespeare earned a living as a actor and a playwright in London and had

By 1592, William, then touring with Pembrokes Men, commissioned by Henry Herbert, the Earl of Pembroke, was swiftly gaining notoriety and popularity as an actor and playwright and three of his plays, King Henry VI, Titus Andronicus, and The Comedy of Errors, were doing particularly well. On April 8, 1593, Shakespeares first critically acclaimed poem, Venus and Adonis was published marking his formal debut as a metrical writer. In 1594, Shakespeare toured with the Lord Chamberlains Men, a troupe, which also included the multi-talented actors Richard
Shakespeare was born to a modest family that consisted of his father, John Shakespeare who was a merchant, and his mother Mary Shakespeare who was the daughter of a proud farmer named Robert Ardon.
