Whenever a film is adapted from a book, there are going to be things that are omitted. One question that emerges is which version is better. Viewers are often left questioning whether aspects portrayed in the film are true to the book or Hollywood’s mockup of the events. When you read a book you are able to paint an image in your head of what is going on, when you watch a film version of the book you are given images to create a story. Wild is a book written by Cheryl Strayed accounting her experiences hiking the 1,100 miles of the Pacific Crest Trail. The journey starts four years after her mother’s passing. While the film has managed to catch the major events of the book many important facts are excluded. There are some instances where the film improves upon the book, but it still does not give the book the full credit it deserves. …show more content…

For example in the film Cheryl runs into two hunters during her search for water, but in the book she encounters the hunters much later in her journey. The hunters go on to ask Cheryl for water. The film combines different events in the book. This is because books tend to be drawn out and films only have a certain amount of time they are allotted. Another reason could be due to the fact that if the film was to show every event in the book many would become bored and lose interest. Omitting certain events allows the film to remain interesting and easy for viewers to follow along with.
