Topic 1 I think this whole situation was wrong and they should have retried the case. People should not be allowed to use any research finding off of the web especially Wikipedia. Most of the time you aren’t even allowed to use this site in school because it is something that can be edited by the outside public. I think the people who posted the information should face consequences because they impeded on a murder investigation. They should be charged with obstruction of justice. However, I don’t think Wikipedia should face any consequences because they tell people upfront their site can be edited and shouldn’t be used if you are not sure of the information you are getting from it. Overall, I think the case should be retried because the jurors ruined the case by posting false information. Topic 2 …show more content…
If you are using a phone then those don’t really apply because the phones are updated often. At the end of the day though this is mostly operator error. If you see signs that are telling you not to go down the road or you see a sign that says the road is not suitable for your vehicle, then that is on you. If you don’t follow the GPS when it tells you to go down the road and you go another way, the GPS will reroute and give you another way to get to your destination. A GPS is just another piece of technology, which will never be perfect, and the user should know that when they go to use
Facts: After Williams was arrested for the disappearance of a 10 year old girl police told his counsel that they would be transporting him from Davenport, Iowa where he was arraigned to Des Moines, Iowa where he was to be held with out questioning him about the case. Eventually after talking with the transporting officer he made incriminating statements and gave information on the area that the body of the child could be found. A large team of volunteers that was actually searching around the area where the body was found was then called off
The research paper I am conducting is on Lizzie Borden who was accused of murdering her father and stepmother in 1892 with a hatchet. Due to failed investigation and lack of technology at the time, Lizzie was released and acquitted of all charges. In this paper I will point out what the police did not do properly during the investigation, as well as what I would have done differently.
Keeping this in mind, we need to come to an understanding that being in a jury carries a lot of weight because a decision we make will bring forth life changing consequences. The prosecutors in this case believe that Katherine was beaten by Michael in an act of malice. In an effort to support their case, they have presented evidence that
The information and evidence in the murder of Jon Benet Ramsey leave a lot of unanswered questions out there on who did and who did not commit this murder and sexual assault. Not all of this information that was provided to the public is correct. The information that has been released in the past showed inaccuracies in vital parts of the information in the case of Jon Benet.
Investigators did a DNA analysis of the closet blood stain at the scene. The DNA was widely covered in the article, the tested DNA was old and badly deteriorated and not an effective source to accuse someone of a crime (Linder). The blood sample used for the analysis got poorly handled by investigators and analyzers. That allowed it to deteriorate loosing accuracy and it most likely got contaminated. The DNA evidence used to place the blame on Richard Eberling thad the incorrect blood type to match his. Sam claimed the blood on him came from the murderer though the blood stain has the incorrect blood type, Richard Eberling was found to have type A blood and no type A blood was discovered in any testing coming from the bedroom or from Sam’s clothes (Linder). This means that someone else must have murdered her as there would be the killers blood type in the room. Only two people matched the blood type, Marilyn and Sam Sheppard. Allegedly Sam fought the killer so you would believe he’d have more blood on his clothes but he only had a single stain on his pants leg. The doctor reinforced that the blood stain isn’t from the alleged murderer Eberling “Moreover, according to DNA expert Dr. Mohammed Tahir, the blood stain on Sam's pants did not come from either himself or Marilyn--but, presumably, from the killer” (Linder). The doctor made an incorrect assumption here as also the blood type would have to match the accused Richard Eberling. Instead it matched Marilyn’s blood type instead. The DNA evidence heavily affected the case and no one knew of the improper care it received that contaminated the evidence essentially making the DNA
The public's shock at the murder soon began to share equal time with its growing dismay at the Boulder police's investigation, a dismay fed by a steady stream of leaks from the Boulder County prosecutor's office about the inept police investigation being conducted. For one thing it became known that the police had badly botched the initial investigation by failing to seal off the crime scene. For another it appeared the police were treating the primary suspects
One of the largest mistakes made by those investigating the case was putting information about the case in the newspaper. The investigators called for the parents to ask their children about specific things that related to the case; this gave the children information about the case that they would have not known otherwise
There were several sub issues found during this case, the first being that Mike Pressler, the Duke University Lacrosse team coach was forced to resign when faced with the possibility of several of his players being charged with rape. Sub issue two is that one lacrosse player, Ryan McFayden, sent a private email to his teammates threatening to kill strippers which was later found to be a quote from the film American Psycho. Sub issue three is that the way that District Attorney, Mike Nifong handled the case was the way that socio-economically disadvantaged accused and accused of color are handled often nationally. False evidence is placed in the case, or evidence is omitted, to charge otherwise innocent
Q1: With regards to the serious flaws in the police investigation of the West Memphis Three, the police investigation was heavily militarized as the cops were inconsistent. They did not focus on the guilty or innocent. Instead, the police concentration was on the enforcement practices and neglects the deep implications. During the police investigation, the police would not chase up any pieces of evidence that could implicate someone else in the crime other than those who already conducted some form of crime or were arrested in the past. This is displayed prominently when the police refused to further pursue the blood evidence found on the knife, who was previously owned by John Mark Byers. This is because if the police misrepresent a crime or are exposed for making mistakes such as apprehending innocents they could easily lose the public's opinions in police protection.
It is interesting to see what peoples’ thoughts and opinions are, because this piece was written before there was even a case. This article shows what citizens’ concerns are, and it is only focused on what is currently happening and recent, similar cases. I think this article also helps the reader connect more with problem at hand for the students, because in the article they mention the students more and how this is a loss for
The purpose of this paper is to discuss and analyze the practices conducted by law enforcement during the investigation of the murder of Ashley Smith. The following pages will discuss the crime scene investigation, the evidence collection, the investigative steps following the initial crime scene investigation, the interviews of witnesses and suspects, and other strategies performed by the acting case investigators. Constitutional challenges have surfaced regarding specific pieces of critical evidence and a section of this paper will analyze the admissibility of this evidence. Lastly this case’s law enforcement processes will be contrasted with textbook processes in an effort to determine the validity of the case’s outcome.
After the death of Sandra Bland, many people, especially the teens, posted her picture of her being mistreated in jail and eventually killed. Her case went viral everywhere on social media and most conversations. However, all of this publishing was ineffective. The former Texas officer who arrested Sandra Bland pleaded not guilty in perjury case. Her death was thought to be an attempt of suicide after being arrested and put in jail. Despite evidence of mistreatment and
On June 12, 1994, the bodies of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman were found dead at her home in Brentwood, CA. Orenthal James Simpson, or O.J. Simpson was notified of their deaths and immediately taken into custody for questions. Upon the collection of various pieces of evidence from the crime scene, all avenues pointed to Simpson as the culprit for the double murder. The conclusion of Simpson criminal trial resulted in his acquittal. There were various reasons for this acquittal. The most prominent reasons include accusations of racism, evidence contamination, and the lack of faith in DNA profiling. This paper will discuss the issues that arose with the trial in depth and offer an explanation and solution to resolving issues
I think it is important to follow directions because if people didn’t follow directions we would have a lot of CHAOS in our world!!! The reason why we would have chaos is because kids would do drugs, have kids at REALLY young ages and there would probably be more homeless people. I think it is important to follow directions because for instance you could be walking across the street (say there’s no speed limit, red lights/stop signs or anything like that) you would obviously get hit by a car and most likely end up in the hospital or be dead on the spot. That’s why there are traffic rules that should be followed.
* Yes its more objectionable than other because of GPS they can easily find the route that passenger wants to go and they can find the ways going to that route because GPS can also give direction on a particular destinations and also it can check some traffic reports and in the same time GPS is also reasonable for public
