For example there is a big gap in the amount people get paid in the state in Nebraska, where the tipped wage is $2.13 and the general wage is $9.00 an hour. It is also unfair because in other states like Montana, Nevada and California have little to no gaps, this means that these states are being payed the same amount in tipped wage and general minimum wage. Finally the reason is should be raised is because of the amount of work a waiter has to do every time they work. Knowing from personal experience it can be a hassle waiting on people with bring their drinks and making sure that they are satisfied with what they order, and yes that is what waiters are supposed to do but it is a hassle when you have to deal with people who are rude and impatient.
Just as the manager in "Cannot" mentions, "If I don't raise menu prices, I will have to shorten servers' shifts to afford paying them more; I might even have to lay off some of them." In my own opinion, I think the employees shouldn't have a petition. Say the petition goes through, and they all are getting a increase on the wages. Half of them will get fired from the resturant. At my family buisness, it would be very dificult to keep the restruant open beause we would have to fire some people, save money to buy the food, have cleaning supplies, and to pay the remaining employees a higher
I agree that we shouldn't increase the minimum wage for non-tipped employees. If the non-tip wage was increased most workers would lose their jobs, or layed off so that the other workers can make the desired amount they are wanting. Many restaurants would have to also close down due to lack of bussiness.
Why wouldn't you pay servers minimum wage? I believe that servers should be minimum wage. The untied states's tipped wage has stayed the same for almost 30 years. In that time, the minimum wage for everyone else has gone up.The reason for that is inflation, the cost of living has gone up.
The world is filled with luxuries such as personal islands, gold-plated cars, or crystal pianos. What about everyday items like food, clothing, and shelter? Families in the United States can barely afford such items because of an American tragedy: the minimum wage. Though the sights and sounds of fluttering money is alluring, it is also elusive. The minimum wage is a tragic loss for the United States because it cannot even provide the bare minimum for employees working tirelessly for it. Opposition of raising it can be negated by statistics that show how the country can move into a brighter future. Data from economic research shows
Since the year 1991, the United States minimum tipped wage for servers and waiters has been the same. From then til now, the minimum wage for non-tipped employees in the country has almost doubled causing a rift in equality in the workforce. Employees who depend solely on tips struggle to make a living and are forced to work more than one
The minimum tipped wage should be raised. There are many reasons that an incease is due. The tipped minimum wage has been the same since 1991. And yet, the cost of living continues to rise. It has risen by 75% in the past 27 years due to inflation.
Should minimal wage be raised to $15.00 an hour? I think that minimal wage should be raised and would greatly benefit the economy. Raising the minimum wage can lead to economic stimulus, create more opportunity for jobs, and reduce the expense of social programs. If the economic stimulus is improved, there is more money to be spent. If there are more jobs created, people can appreciate productivity and turn down rates. If the expense of social programs is reduced, low income families would not have to worry about depending on welfare. Raising minimal wages would give hope to the woman, different race, and encourage and motivate others to further their education. (Doyle, 2015).
With a problem like this one it is tough to pick a side. Servers not only at Waffle Now but all around the world hardly ever make a livable wage. The cost of living has went up by 75% over the last 24 years as said in in the first letter, so for someone to live off of tipped minimum wage is pretty much impossable. Seven states have already starting paying servers Non-tipped wage and in those states, there was higher then average employment growth, increase in restaurant sales and no lost in employment as stated in letter one. One more fact from letter one is that workers that rely on tips are more likely to need government assistance. Now with all the great points I have brought up, there is a few downsides to non-tipped minimum wage. If Waffle
As Mentioned in Letter#1 "Server Wages Should Be increased" by Brianne Lawson the paid minimum tipped wage has been frozen since 1991. During that same time the non-tipped employees wages have almost doubled. It is said that the employees who recieve tips make so little money that they have to get goverment assistance just to survive.Tips are supposed to reflect the servers performace but a study at Cornell University found that the tips barely match the servers performance. The amount
It 's the year 2014, and we are in the state of the financial crisis which is still being felt
America is a place where the people strive to create equal opportunities in every avenue of life. Every American should have unrestricted access to the options presented before them, allowing them to pursue their life goals and die happy deaths. However, this principle only stands for access to options, it has nothing to do with the advantages and disadvantages of said choices. The American dream is the idea that if you work hard enough, persevere, and really believe in yourself, good things will come. Drastically raising the minimum wage goes against all of those principles, rewarding lethargic actions and poor life choices. Raising the minimum wage to $15 will do more harm than good for middle class americans by decreasing the value of the money in their pockets, driving out big companies, and generally increasing unemployment.
Our employees that receive tips should have their minimum wage rasied. Doing this will ensure that our employees will have a stable income. Being so they do not have to rely on tips every pay check. With that being said i think raising the tip minimum wage would be a great thing for our empolyees. Having to rely on tips all the time can be fustraging. What if they dont receive enough tips for what they need the money for? They are working for a reason, and i dont think its to not get tipped and have to rely on their low source of income.
To begin, I think it is important to discuss the history of minimum wage adjustments for non-tipped employees. Wages for non-tipped employees have remained the same since 1991, even though, we've seen an increase in the cost of living by 75% over the past 24 years. Thus, servers are making the same amount of money as they did in 1991, but paying drastically more for basic living essentials. The 2014 Economic Policy Institue report stated, "workers who rely mainly on tips are more likely to need government
I belive that employees should be paied minimum wadge. I belive this because tips are not concecutively the same.Your job should be at least the same as another employee with the same job.
Are servers under paid and over worked? Do employers need to reconsider paying employees the federal minimum wage for tipped employees? The answer to that question is in fact no. The reason behind that is, a raise in pay will not only impact buisiness owners but will also impact the consumers as well.
