There have been many assassinations throughout history, but not all of them have sparked a huge piece in the history of war, World War I. Archduke Francis (Franz) Ferdinand, the Archduke of Austria-Hungary, was assassinated on June 28 of 1914 by a Serbian nationalist group that was called “Unity or Death”, more commonly known as the Black Hand, due to the symbol they used. Some Serbians were unhappy with the Austrian Empire because of the annexation of Bosnia and Herzegovina to Austria-Hungary which the Serbs had fought for, and they didn’t like that. Even though Archduke Franz Ferdinand wasn’t the Emperor of Austria-Hungary yet, the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was

The assassination and the ultimatum both played a significant role in the outbreak of the war. They caused a chain reaction of events, which ended up eventually causing World War I. On July 23, 1914, nearly one month after the assassination of Austrian Archduke Franz Ferdinand, Austria-Hungary issued an ultimatum to Serbia. Serbia accepted all terms of the ultimatum except for one; consequently, on July 28, 1914, Austria-Hungary declared war on Serbia, beginning the First World War.
On June 28, Ferdinand and his wife, Sophie, were riding through Sarajevo in an open car when suddenly, a young terrorist by the name of Gavrilo Princip stepped from the curb and took aim at the couple with a pistol. Just like that, the heir to the throne and his wife were
On June 28th, 1914, Austria-Hungary’s Archduke “Francis Ferdinand, Austrian heir, and [his] wife [were] murdered (Doc 10)” in Sarajevo, Bosnia. His assassin was Gavrilo Princip, who was a Bosnian Serb and was in an organization that seeked to end Austro-Hungarian rule in his home of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Princip was said to have “fired the shot that started World War 1”, and the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was considered one of the, if not THE, main cause(s) of The First World

Assassination is a very controversial way to die but many prominent people still experience it. Franz Ferdinand, the Archduke of Austria-Hungary, was among them. Even though the Archduke had some differing views he still showed to be a good leader. The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand was unjust because he was a good leader and his death caused World War 1, which led to the death of millions. Some Serbian nationalists believed he should have died because of the ideas Austria- Hungary had in store for Serbia.
Archduke Franz Ferdinand was the heir to the throne of the Austro-Hungarian Empire in 1896. He was a threat to the Black Hand Terrorist group, a group of radical Serbian nationalists. They pledged “to destabilize the Austro-Hungarian Empire and the Ottoman Empire in order to incorporate their Serb population into a greater Serbia” (CITE) However the Archduke’s goals were “strengthening the Austro-Hungarian Empire” (CITE) which was contrary to the Serbs' desires. They feared that if he came into power, he would continue to persecute the Serbs, henceforth the decision to assassinate him.
The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand occurred when he was heir to the throne of Austria – Hungary this was caused by a group of Serbian men called the black hand. It is to a significant extent that the Archduke Franz Ferdinand’s assassination set in motion a chain of events that lead to the First World War. This occurred because of the assassination, countries having alliances and imperialism. ASSASSINATION

As the couple rode through Sarajevo, the capital of Austro-Hungarian, on June 28, 1914, a man by the name of Gavrilo Princip jumped on their car and fired two shots, killing Ferdinand and his wife. They took a wrong turn and the associate of the man who threw the grenade happened to be on the street where they turned. 19 year old Gavrilo Princip, who was dying of tuberculosis, spotted the car and shot the archduke and his wife killing them both. The assassination was completed and a point had been made.
Franz Ferdinand can be said to be the reason that WWI happened. An archduke, he was the heir to the Austro-Hungarian empire. Ferdinand, with his wife, decided to make an inspection of troops in the capital of Bosnia. While there, a Sebrian terrorist group of seven, The Black Hand, was going to try to assassinate him. The first two assassins were unable to kill him, but the third was able to throw a grenade that landed under the car in which they were traveling in. Although it did not injure him or his wife, Sophie, it did harm some of his attendants. After this point, no one knows for sure what happens. Some say he went
Archduke Franz Ferdinand of Austria and his wife Sophie the Duchess of Hohenberg has been recently assassinated on June 28. It was told from our sources that there were multiple assassins but the one that succeeded was Gavrilo Princip. He fired at the Archduke with a FN M1910 pistol (as shown to the right). He also had ended up killing Sophie, his wife. Gavrilo Princip and one of the other assassins tried committing suicide with cyanide pills but it only made them ill. Gavrilo Princip has been arrested now. This has sparked controversy and the Austria-Hungary government feels as if the assassination was attack towards their country. Now, The Archduke of Austria is no longer with us and we may mourn him as he rests in peace.
The assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand in Sarajevo, Bosnia, on June 28, 1914 (Brook-Shepherd 250), gave the Austro-Hungarians the justification needed to attack the Pan-Slavic threat. All that was known at the time was that the assassins were Slavs (Kohn 255) and that they had committed the crime in the hotbed of Pan-Slavic attention in Bosnia. It was later revealed that the murderer was associated with the afore-mentioned “Black Hand” group that advocated unification of all Slavs at whatever the cost (MacKenzie 61) The immediate significance of the murder was that it gave Austria-Hungary a pretext for suppressing the Pan-Slavic
