Every book as a meaning for being written, and every teacher has a specific purpose for a book to be read by their class. Each book presented to this class provided a multitude of life lessons to take from them. These books are Choosing Powerful Words, Outliers, and How to Win Friends and Influence People. Each book was assigned for a given purpose whether it be to teach the class the eloquence of words, how to use those words to influence others, or just being successful in life. Choosing Powerful Words was written by Ronald Carpenter and is a source for tips about speaking and using your words to better present your message to others. In his book, he states that two ways to do this are emphasis and metaphor. In Outliers, Malcolm Gladwell provides examples of successful people who’s achievements ‘fall outside normal experience”. In this he explains the ten thousand hour rule as well as the Matthew Effect. The final book for reading is How to Win Friends and Influence People, written by Dale Carnegie. Originally published during the depression, Carnegie gives tips for being a leader as well as techniques in handling people. Two key components of this are to not criticize, condemn, or complain. One aspect of being a leader is to praise every and the slightest of improvements. Each of these components of each book are important and can be related to parts of every person’s life in some manner.
The book that I read was John Huey’s and Sam Walton’s, “Sam Walton: Made in America” published in 1992. John Huey was the senior editor at Forbes magazine at the time. He is known for reporting on the business world and profiling many of the leading personalities. Sam Walton was the man who started it all for the national corporation, Wal-Mart. He was the founder and CEO. Sam’s main purpose of this book is to tell the “formula” of to how to be successful as a business owner.
I simply enjoyed this book because there are some good lessons learned from this book and good information to think about during your lifetime. My favorite moment however in this book is when Richard talked about Thinking. The reason this is my favorite principal is it occurs to many people each and every day. Richard gave an example of a Football player who was about to retire from the sport and was playing his last game in front of their home crowd.
I chose the book “Following Christ in a Consumer Society” by John F. Kavanaugh. The book is about what is going on today in our consumer society and how that is effecting who we are. The book then goes into Christianity and it talks about how Christian lives are being effected by consumerism and then Kavanaugh tells you ways that can lead you to live a better Christian life. In the first half of the book, Kavanaugh talked a lot about how can buy our happiness along with other peoples happiness because of marketing.
I have written and published numerous bestseller books. My first book was Trump: The Art of the Deal. I published this book in 1987 as an autobiography and business advice book. It sold HUMONGOUSLY! Everyone could not get enough of me. After this, i wrote many more books. This includes:(not in any order)
All Entrepreneurs have one thing in common and I believe it is hindsight, which I consider to be the ability to see opportunities in every situation,as this is only way they are able to shine as entrepreneurs. I believe entrepreneurs must also be charismatic and able to sell their ideas to prospective investors, their subordinates and the general public. There are a number of entrepreneurs that I admire a lot however one that stands out for me would be the owner of harpo Inc and one of the wealthiest women in the world-Oprah winfrey who overcame poverty and grew to be not just a media mogul but one of the most powerful women in the world. This essay celebrates her success as a beacon of hope and a stellar example to aspiring entrepreneurs like myself.
This book taught me many skills about leadership, but most importantly, it showed me how to focus on the positive rather than the negative
Dale Carnegie’s book, How to Win Friends and Influence People, discusses 30 principles that are essential to the life of an individual and how they can contribute to their career success. These principles, if applied with good effort, can be useful to one’s daily life in business. The first standard Carnegie discusses is to not criticize, condemn, or complain (80). In my life, I have seen this principle in action through the way people treat and interact with others. It is important to not be critical of the efforts of others because they are working hard to be successful like everyone else and we must be conscious of the impact our words have on people around us. I have found myself degrading the efforts of others out of jealousy which caused me to feel guilty about the words I chose to say. The words a person chooses to say can mean the difference between the continuation or termination of a relationship.
Plans Without Passion are Doomed I resonated a lot with the message of The Monk and the Riddle by Randy Komisar. I am fascinated by people’s reasoning for doing what they do and why they make the choices they make. When Komisar started talking about the why of business, I knew I was going to experience a book that spoke to me.
When I began reading “How to Win Friends and Influence People” I was exceedingly skeptical of how I would feel about this book. I love reading; however, I usually do not choose to read books of this style or genre. While reading the preface I began thinking, “Is this how the whole book is going to be? Because I am about to fall asleep, here.” BUT as I began the actual book, not the preface, I realized that Dale Carnegie wrote the same way he talked and I immediately began to get more and more into the book. The more I read, the more it felt like someone was really talking to me, and that they genuinely wanted me to listen and learn from this book. This book is split into four different parts, each covering their own specific set of principles to follow. The parts are, Fundamental Techniques in Handling People, Six Ways to Make People Like You, Win People to Your Way of Thinking, and finally Be a Leader: How to Change People Without Giving Offense or Arousing Resentment.
But the most important is his way of trying to convince people, he uses the values and interests of them, to give his arguments extra power, and this is a good way. Unfortunately for him, he is not going to change a big group of people, what I think his goal is. He says he wants to share his knowledge, and he gives tip about how we could change ourselves. I’m sure somebody is going to change after reading his book, but not a big group of people. Because, as I said, explaining our behavior is something all the humans have, so it’s almost impossible to change a big group because of your

Taking this entrepreneur course has been the best thing I could do for myself. Not only did it grow my mindset, but it taught me how to focus and concentrate on meeting my goals. At the beginning of this semester I could not let go the negative self-image I had of myself. Since I have been able to reflect on who I am I am slowly able to let go of that past image. I now know that I am more than able to reach my goals with the proper mindset and skills. I have come a long way since the beginning of this course. At the beginning of this course we were asked what is most important in life, and when I chose myself I knew after that reflections that I was off to a great start. Putting myself first these last few months has been the best thing I
