The Maze Runner, by James Dashner continued to capture my eyes attention as I continued to read this book. The next chapters of this book were very interesting and I learned a lot. My prediction from my last entry turned out somewhat true however somethings did not happen. The first part of my prediction was that the Grievers would go out and hurt more people. Actually, this did not happen. Secondly, I predicted that Thomas would go in the wall to kill the Grievers. Furthermore, Thomas actually went inside not to kill the Grievers, but to help Minho and Alby. However, Thomas and Minho actually ended up killing four of the Grievers. Lastly, I predicted that Thomas would find a way out of this place. This didn’t exactly happen. Minho found the …show more content…
Ben’s punishment was that he had to go in the maze with the Grievers and spend the night. There was no chance of survival. I used to think that the people here were very strict, but wouldn’t want to torture anyone, but now I’m realizing that the people here are really harsh and will put Ben in the maze with Grievers. Being that, Chuck said, “ ‘He’s being Banished. Tonight, for trying to kill you.’ ‘Banished? What does that mean?’ Thomas had to ask, though he knew it couldn’t be good if Chuck thought it was worse that being dead.” (Dashner 89). In fact, Ben had to spend the night in the maze. There was no chance of survival because no one has ever survived a night in the maze. Therefore, the Gladers have rules and if you break one, you pay for …show more content…
Everyone was arguing for either Thomas to be punished or to be rewarded. The main people who were fighting were Gally and Minho. Gally believed Thomas should be killed, while Minho said that Thomas should stay alive. In conclusion, the decision was made to for Thomas to spend a day in the slammer and then Thomas would be elected to be a runner. At the end, Newt said that he would make things change. I used to think that Newt wouldn’t actually make things different, but now I’m realizing that Newt is actually going to change things after Gally and Minho’s fight. As for that, Newt then said, “You’ve proven more in one night than most trainees do in weeks.” (Dashner 166). This shows that Newt is more toward Minho’s side, which is that Thomas is very brave and he has made a big difference at the Glade. Also, When Alby woke up he told Newt to protect the maps and then fell asleep again. Therefore, things are definitely going to change
With this series, readers should be able to tell that the series is a fantasy. Parents should know that kids are capable of this ability. When it comes to behavior, it is shown several times in the book that he gets punished for his actions. Readers who disagree with this obviously haven’t actually read the books. Other readers say he “breaks a lower law to keep a higher one.” Another reason this book shouldn’t be banned is because with how the book is written, it could help kids cope with real life situations. For example, it could help kids with deal with close ones dying.
The Maze Runner is a book about a society called The Glade, The Glade only gets people and supplies from a metal box in the direct centre of the glade. The Glade is surrounded by a maze that is closes it’s doors at night when the Grievers a creature that is half machine and half animal and the size of a cow comes out at night killing anything it sees. For what the glade was given they have been a good society as most of the time the box doesn't bring up anything but food and water. The Glade has also had to develop rules in the two years that have worked out pretty well to make a system that works everyday. The Glade has lasted through Two years of death, disease, etc.
Do you think that our society is bad or good? Should Donald Trump be president, or should Bernie Sanders be president? Fahrenheit 451’s society is terrible. Their government/laws is worse, the fireman are bad and the banning of books in their society. “Whenever you read a good book, somewhere in the world a door opens to allow in more light” (Vera Nazarian). If books are being banned then a door won’t open and let in more light. In Fahrenheit 451 they have a living room like in America and the similarities is that there are electronics and no one communicates in the living room.
Young adult fiction is a unique area in its own way, and one that incorporates forms of lives not common in society. The book, Maze Runner is a typical example of adult fiction in which the author presents scenarios involving various forms of life, which readers can learn from and apply to their own, as well. To begin with, by reading this book in class, students will not only learn about magic and terror, but also about sorrow, bravery, friendship as well as suffering in attempts to find redemption. Everything about this book is fictional but subsequent events from previous ones make things even more real. In the beginning, fiction is achieved when the main character, Thomas,
If I was the librarian, I would not get rid of (or censor) any of the books, excluding “Catcher in the Rye.”
Has anyone ever heard of a banned book? This book by Harper Lee, To Kill a
Fahrenheit 451 was published in 1953 by Ray Bradbury in the US. His book is set in a dystopian society where books are illegal and and thinking is restricted. Instead of firemen putting out fires, they start them.. Bradbury’s famous book has been mainly challenged by middle schools and high schools. While Fahrenheit 451 maybe the most controversial novel in the 20th century, it holds the award as being one of the most notable banned books in history. No other book has been written like this so mysterious and real. The idea of how books are banned doesn’t really matter to most people. While Fahrenheit 451 might include some vulgar language and profanity, it shares ideas that can help young people.
What is a banned book? Well a banned book is a book that people have tried to get teens not to read, not only teens but also for younger children. This means that people don’t like what content may be in a book, they think it’s inappropriate or not meeting the standards for the age group. That’s when banning a book takes place. Before a book can be considered banned a person has to challenge the book. No,not like a like a fight with a book, but just “an attempt to remove or restrict materials, based upon the objections of a person or a group.” says The American Library Association. Then after the book is challenge the library board will decide if the book shall be banned or not. A lot of books are banned and 13 reasons why is one of them. Teens should be allowed to read 13 reasons why because it teaches people that words truly do hurt, Choices that people make in life can affect others too, and it also teaches people to ask for help when it is needed.
There has been much controversy over whether or not the novel To Kill a Mockingbird should be banned or not. This novel teaches students about the racism and prejudice of the 1930’s resulting in why the world is the way it is, as well as many important life lessons, therefore it should be continued to be taught in schools. The novel To Kill a Mockingbird should not be banned because it teaches about life in the past and why the world is the way it is now, proving that this novel has the ability to effectively educate kids about the past and potential impact of human behaviour.
The freedom to read and express ourselves means that we shouldn’t allow the banning of books due to inappropriate material. I have gone to a private school all of my life and I have never experienced books being banned or taken away during school. I am thankful for that, but yet it is highly unfortunate knowing that some public school students did not have the opportunity to read some of the best books ever written. Amazing books such as Harry Potter, To Kill a Mockingbird, and Catcher in the Rye were banned from public schools and these are books that I love and would definitely recommend. I believe the banning of books is unconstitutional and deprives people of learning about the world around them; they also help us learn new ways of thinking and social skills that can be applied to real life.
The Maze Runner reflects concerns for our current society because in the movie the creators who have lots of power take control over the teenagers by technology. They wash the memory out of their brains and then send them up into a maze, which is an experiment to find a cure to the flare (a deadly disease). This concerns us because since the higher ranking people have the most power, with the new and improved technology they could take control of everyone to benefit them self.
It seems like I was right about the plot thickening quickly. Already Thomas has made an enemy, a boy
The famous book The Maze Runner by James Smith Dashner, is the famous story about a young man named Thomas who wakes up in the middle of a metallic box that serves as an elevator with no memory of his past, the box opens up to a place called “the Glade” with 60 other boys staring back at him as he tries to run away pass them. Every thirty days a new boy or supplies arrive from the box and for three years they have lived together trying to find clues through the maze that surrounds them; but as they start losing hope it all changes when something unprecedented happens and a girl along with a note arrive through the box. The book along with amazing imagery and relevance to today’s world manages to attract more than just teenagers but anybody that is up for the challenge of the maze, and that is just the purpose of this paper to demonstrate multiple reason of why this book not only deserves to be read but it should hold a place in the literary canon.
During Joseph Stalin’s regime of the Soviet Union, 1984, the Classic Dystopian novel by George Orwell, was burned and banned, because the book shone a negative light on communism. The book, 1984, follows the life of Winston Smith, who lives in a country called Oceania. Oceania is a totalitarian society, ruled by a government known as The Party, whose leader is called Big Brother. In Oceania, every movement and sound every person makes is constantly surveillanced, and one wrong facial expression, statement, or action can cause the ‘Thought Police’ to take the person away to never be seen again. A small percentage of the population questions The Party’s dictatorship, and the novel follows Winston’s struggles to keep his hatred of The Party
The Gladers show this by being in a tough situation, but making the most of what they have to exit the maze. Thomas, Theresa, and the rest of the Gladers could have given up when they began being attacked, but they made the most of it to make it out alive. Also this is shown when the rebels come and save the day. On page 361 when the rebels take the opportunity to save the Gladers they say, “Just follow me and run like your life depends on it. Because it does.” This part of the book allows the rebels to take their opportunity and save the Gladers.
