Baseball is one of my favorite sports and the fact is that it is so thrilling that when you hit the ball you get a huge adrenaline rush so you run as fast as you can to the base. But later on steroids were introduced to baseball; there were so many athletes that ended up using the Performance Enhancing Drugs or (PEDs) but when people were seeing the hits they did not just go into the field, there were more home runs than the normal record there were in a season. When it first used people didn’t know how people were hitting so many home runs, but it made the game more interesting and people loved it and when people found out it that what the players were doing was basically cheating, some people thought it was okay because it made it more interesting, but there were some people who were unhappy with the players who were cheating.
Some people say this is an issue and I agree that steroids should be banned from baseball because it is cheating and it gives an unfair advantage. One of the players who confessed to using PEDs was Mark Mcgwire and he was an amazing baseball player and when the MLB finally took notice to this they started to ban steroids

This reason being that people work hard to get their job as a professional sports player, and they don’t have a fair game. “Deeper than reasons of fairness, liberty, or utility, are reasons of virtue. Virtue ethics shifts our attention from the question of which actions or rules are right (What should we do?.” (Philosophynow Darrin Belousek ). The reason this was said because people don’t get the fairness they should and there are people who disagree with players using drug and so, Virtue is one thing that cheaters don’t understand and all they see in their eyes is getting an unfair advantage. They should be condemned for what they
cheating has always been around and in baseball Steroids are a Performance Enhancing Drug or PED for short that help with strength or players have also been known to use Human Growth Hormone or HGH, “Wonder if steroids helped Roger Clemens to lead the Houston Astros and New York Yankees to the World Series?” (Bilson) Ty Cobb sharpened spikes, and bet on baseball and he's still in the HOF, or how Mike Scott doctored baseballs with an emery board, or Alberte Belle, Sammy Sossa with Corked bats a corked bat is a bat that does not have the wood filling super balls can be put in there in place for it many different things can be used in place of that. Also how can anyone forget Barry Bonds with steroids how much did that help bonds break the All-Time home run record? How about Triss Speaker and the scandal of him fixing games , Gaylord Perry doctored baseball with various substances to throw off hitters. Other players other than Bonds have admitted to Steroid use Paul Molitor Class of 2004 and Wade Boggs Class of 2005 both admitted to steroid use, Boggs later admitted to being a sex addict on the Barbra Walters show. Mike Piazza alleged steroid scandal his back acne grew significantly and his substantial amount of hair growth on his back. Cheaters never win has been said through out the history of the world. I fully believe that is the honest
Another issue is players who have broken records and tested positive for steroids during the period they broke the record. “Although increased speed and arm strength have also been linked to the use of steroids, home run statistics have glaringly
Since Major League Baseball all-star Ken Caminiti openly admitted to Sports Illustrated to have used steroids during his career, steroid use as a muscle and performance enhancer has been uncovered and become a big issue Major League Baseball is wrestling with. The “ongoing and delicate subject, baseball’s dirty, little secret that is no secret anymore,” is a huge and growing problem (Curry B20). Now that light has been shed on the issue, critics are beginning to realize the magnitude of this problem and do not like it. Steroids are a cheating virus that is spreading quickly. Users cheat other players, themselves, the fans, and the game itself. Action must be taken to rid Major League Baseball of this virus
In Major League Baseball, numerous players have put up tremendous statistics and record breaking numbers. There are a great amount of players in the league that have done this naturally, however it is not uncommon to see star players get caught taking performance enhancing drugs or steroids. Steroid use in baseball has been an issue since the earliest days of the game, and can be seen very frequently in players today. Jose Canseco was a star hitter in the major leagues, who had admitted to steroid later in his career. Canseco once estimated that 85% of other players were also taking performance enhancing drugs. Though that estimate is not proven, there are still many players today that are taking these steroids, and it needs to remain an issue in the eyes of the MLB. Taking these drugs not only promotes the risk of significant side effects and health problems to the player consuming them, but it makes changes to the game itself as well. The way the game is being played has changed over time due to this issue, and players are receiving advantages that other players are not. Overall, these illegal drugs are unfair to other players in the game and simply are not safe, and should never become legal in the league.
It was a warm, sultry night in September. The fans were crazed in anticipation as Mark McGwire stepped to the plate. With a gentle stretch, he paused, patiently poised, waiting for what would eventually be the greatest hit baseball had ever seen. The pitcher, Steve Trachsel, came set. He shot a determined look to the dirt. In a rivalry such as this (Cubs, Cardinals) he did not want to be the one to give up the great number 62. He cocked his arm back, to let loose what would be an eighty-eight mile an hour fastball that most men would not see fly by, but Big Mac was not most men. With one mighty swing, sixty-one was no more, ney sayers were silenced, and the game
It is these people who stand behind the notion that the utilization of illicit drugs takes away from the purity of the sport. Baseball players should be revered for their skills that are a result of hard work and dedication, not from the aid of quick shortcuts such as steroids. Some people say that Bonds took the easy way out and put up statistics that he did not necessarily earn, and it is for this reason why many think of his actions as immoral and unjust. Not to mention, but doping can also be extremely dangerous for an athlete’s health. Additionally, what kind of message does the use of steroids put out for the children who might look up at to this athlete as a role model? One could argue that a child could see a player such as Bonds doing so well in his career because of the drugs he took, and takeaway the idea that it is acceptable to cheat so long as it gets you to the top. The last argument against doping in baseball and sports altogether is that it establishes an uneven playing field. As, “athletes who choose not to use steroids are at an unfair advantage – most will be unable to compete at the same level as athletes who are using steroids” (Ashby, 2010). It is a culmination of the aforementioned reasons that led to Bonds leaving a bad taste in a lot of fan’s
The abuse of steroids among players in Major League Baseball is corrupting the image of America's Pastime as well as endangering the health of those who use the illegal substances. The lack of testing and punishment for the use of illegal substances like steroids in the Major Leagues portrays a negative image to aspiring young athletes. They see their role models using steroids and becoming better athletes rather than seeing suspensions for the illegal behavior or the negative health effects.
“Going, Going, Gone, Home Run!” everyone knows what this means when an announcer says it. The game of baseball is a different sport, unlike basketball and football; you do not necessarily need strength to be dominant. So, why are steroids a big issue in baseball? Steroids, in particular, anabolic steroids, build up cellular tissue or muscle. However, they do not give you the necessary skills to play the game. I am almost certain the world’s strongest man could not hit a home run on a major league field, so why punish those who have used steroids? Steroids are not like magic and transform and average man

The Intelligence Square U.S. held a debate about whether or not the government’s rules on performance enhancing drugs should be ban in professional sports. For the debate they had Radley Balko, Investigative Journalist, Norman Fost, Professor of Pediatrics and Bioethics at the University of Wisconsin, and Julian Savulescu, Uehiro Professor of Practical Ethics at the University of Oxford argue for the motion. They argue the fact that the medicines we take on a daily basis from the pharmacy are also performance enhancers. This goes back all the way to the Romans who once used herbs to improve themselves for battle, making them believe that the only exception that separates this from steroids is that it is illegal. On the other hand, you have
Do you feel that PED’s should be allowed in sport? The problem is that players use PED’s or Performance Enhancing Drugs to get an advantage over their opponents. Despite the advances in technology for discovering PED’s, there is still a great number of people who get away with PED’s. Many people continue to use PED’s and will continue to use them until they get caught, and even after they get caught. Performance enhancing drugs should not be allowed in sports, resulting in more fair competition.
The game of baseball has seen a lot of controversy over the past decade or so, which people call the Steroid Era. The search for abusers of performance-enhancing drugs has been reminiscent of a witch-hunt and players have fell under more and more scrutiny. The use of performance-enhancing drugs in baseball has a long history but is something that must come to an end. The use of steroids and other performance-enhancing drugs causes gives players an unfair advantage over their peers that cannot be ignored.
However the spotlight that steroids find themselves in are in professional sports, mainly Major League Baseball. Steroids have been an on-going issue with Major League Baseball. The MLB has been tainted in one way or another since the game began. However, now the game has been tainted with drugs that are giving some players an advantage over others. These players are also taking risks with drugs because they are constantly trying to attain a drug that does not get detected when they get drug tests. The MLB should outsource their drug testing policies to an independent organization like the World Anti Doping Agency (WADA) to ensure that there are no conflicts of interest between players and the MLB. In 1994-95, the MLB suffered a strike that resulted in the cancellation of the post season. Afterwards, fans were deterred from the sport. So in 1998,
Steroids are a hot topic of debate and controversy in the world of athletes and sports. Steroids fall under the umbrella of performance enhancing drugs (PEDs) and are a dark cloud that have been hovering over the sports world for a long time. In the world today, steroids are the most relevant in major league baseball. Many baseball players, such as Barry Bonds, Alex Rodriguez, Ryan Braun, and Mark McGwire, just to name a few, have ruined their reputations because of steroids. There are repercussions for PED use in major league baseball, which have cut down on the substance abuse by players but have nowhere near eliminated the problem.
Steroids are used in almost every sport. In most cases, in order to succeed, steroids must be used to even out the playing field. A young athlete with a million dollar contract will obviously look to steroids as a way to succeed in his/her new career. Furthermore, the media has shown that steroids do in fact work and can help them beat their competition. The media portrays that steroids are the route to success, winning money, being on the television, setting records and having women after them (CITE). What young athlete wouldn’t want that? Besides this, the media is demanding the best out of these athletes. If they do not perform well, viewers are not interested. Thus, steroids are used to transform a person from mediocre to an expert. Viewers want to see more home runs and people crossing the finish line faster. Unfortunately, this can’t be done without the help of steroids. As the video states, viewers “want our athletes using steroids”. The media has come to expect unrealistic expectations for these athletes and the only way to keep up is with steroids. These unrealistic expectations are what caused the BALCO baseball scandal. The founder of BALCO, a drug producing company, Victor Conte knew steroids enhanced physical performance, which brought media attention and money. As a result, he formed a conspiracy with several athletes. He illegally gave the athletes steroids in return for a profit. If the media, did not demand such high standards for these athletes, this scandal wouldn't have occurred because there wouldn’t have been money or fame
