How far will people take things when it involves their life on the line? Obviously you life is a big deal. You would do anything to make sure that you will live in any situation. There are certain things that you think, is it really worth doing after you go through that situation. So in this journal, I will talk about how far people would go to make sure that they live. My first body paragraph will start off with what I know as far as why people going great lengths in order to live. Then my next two paragraphs will talk about movies and tv shows I seen that people go great lengths in order to live. Why People Go Great Lengths in Order to Survive Some people are really scared of dying. They will do anything in order to live and don’t care what the consequences are. They fear of what is after life. They don’t know what is real and what is not. This is a fear that can haunt someone’s life which can result in someone doing something really crazy in order to survive. So what I’m trying to say is people go these great lengths to survive because they are scared to die. I would admit to do anything to make sure I survive because one of my biggest fear is dying. The most common thing I see in movies is people doing crazy things in order to stay alive. My favorite movie that represents this topic is Jumanji. In this movie four kids play this game that they found while they were cleaning a room in their school. Once they clicked play, the game consul that they were playing on sucked them into the game. Once they realized what just happened they figured out if they die in the game, they also die in real life. They had to do a bunch of crazy task to find this gem and put it on top of this mountain in order to win the game. We all know that in games you do very unrealistic stuff that wouldn’t be possible in real life but, these kids had to find a way out of
Theres just something about death that everybody wants to try to avoid. They try any way that they can and this can cause much fear in some people. LIke for example, Mrs. Proctor told Danforth she was is pregnant. Danforth says, “Mr. Proctor, this morning, your wife send me a claim in which she claims she is pregnant.” (Act 3, Page 866) She knew she would be put to death if she didn’t say this, and what drove it out of her was her fear of dying. Another example is when Mr. Proctor had the choice to die or confess he is a witch and he proclaimed, “I want my life!” (Act 4, Page 884) He knew he would die unless he confessed, even if he knew it was wasn’t the right thing to do. It was the only way he could stay alive at the time, and the fear of dying was too much for him. The fear of death is what led these people to make the decisions they
They fear more things that are out of your hands than what they can control. For example, people fear death by plane crash but not death by heart failure or another controllable disease. People seeing plane crashes and car crashes all over the news help put those images and fear into their minds. They can see that happening to them or their family and they fear that. News doesn’t really follow stories on heart failure like they do those stories. Family’s don’t see think about these things until they happen to them. My family never did but once my uncle passed away from a heart attack we watch ourselves and the rest of my family more closely, in fear of losing them like we did my
In numerous novels spoken about there was fear of death, being taken away from loved ones, a type of phobia, fear of heartbreak, or fear of the unknown. These may just be stories, but it's relevant in life too. Every single day fears appear in each person’s mind, probably more than once. That is why without fear, there would not be life. Or life would be boring, dull, and unexciting.
It sets forth this idea of how people in present society have a very minimal fear of death
Everyone in this world is going to die at some point, but no one wants to think about that. Most people do not let the thought of death bother them, they just live their normal life and go on with their daily business. Death can happen at any given moment in time, but we will never know when that time will come. Death is not the number one fear in the world, but it is still in the top ten. There are a lot of people in the world do fear the thought of dying, so they put it in
Another example that your state of mind during a matter of life or death situation will influence your outcome is in the speech “Truth at all Cost”, by Marie Colvin. Truth at all cost is about an author sharing her story as being a war correspondent. In Marie’s speech, she says, “journalist covering combat, shoulder great responsibilities, ...(and sometimes) they pay the ultimate price...(Colvin 85).” This example shows that your state of mind will influence your outcome because the journalists who decided to do the job of reporting back the news of war had
Fear of the unknown, and fear of what is to come in our lives, has generations of people wondering what will our lives be like tomorrow or the next day. Death is always there and we cannot escape it. Death is a scary thing. Our own mortality or the mortality of our loved ones scares us to the point that we sometime cannot control how we are dealing with such a thing as the thought of death. Why do we fear such a thing as death? We don’t know what happens after we don’t how it feels. The fear of death is different for most but it is most certain to come and we cannot hide from it. For death is just around the corner and maybe it’s will come tomorrow or the next day! We fear not death but the unknown that comes from death, that is the scariest thing about death.
Basically, there are three types of fear of death: fear of dying, fear of the after life in hell and fear of death is the end of everything. According to Lucretius’s Loss argument, he states that people fear of something or feel bad for something only if they care about it. In other words, based on the logic rule of Modus Tollens, if I do not care about it, then it will not be a bad thing for me. For example, if I do not care about my puppy, then its death will not touch me and it will not count as a bad thing for me. From this perspective, people only fear of the feeling of losing what they mind.
We humans especially, fear many different things: death, disease, old age, commitment, noises in the night, pain, responsibility, work, being too fat or too thin, or any number of other things. Some of our fears are reasonable and rationale, like the fear for our safety so we lock our doors at night, never walk alone on dark streets, and
Scientifically, the fear of death is known as Necrophobia. In the United States, 68% of population suffers from the fear of dying. The fear of death is among the top two most common fears, above it is the fear of public speaking (Seth). People fear death because they do not want to leave any burdens to their loved ones and they also want to feel as if they lived a meaningful life before they die.
Wright presents the fear of surviving on your own through obstacles that we are challenged with when we're in a difficult situations in order survive on your own you should find the best routes that lead you to finding success. He learns to survive on the streets by joining a gang. Stealing and mugging people were a part of his duty as a gang member. It is reasonable for a teen who is an orphan and homeless to try and live on the streets by stealing or mugging people for money. Is it the right way to survive? Any orphan runaway teen in Johnny's situation may convince themselves that these things are okay in helping them to survive. His desire to survive is driven by fear of being an orphan runaway teen living on the streets.
The fear of death follows from the fear of life. A man who lives fully is prepared to die at any
Fear of the Unknown “To fear death, gentlemen, is no other than to think oneself wise when one is not, to think one knows what one does not know. No one knows whether death may not be the greatest of all blessings for a man, yet men fear it as if they knew that it is the greatest of evils” (Socrates). The works “A Good Man is Hard to Find” by Flannery O’Conner and “Guest of the Nation” by Frank O’Conner address the issue of death. Both stories suggest that death is something that we cannot avoid, but in the world we live in death doesn’t always happen in the middle of the night of natural causes. The world is a cruel place and the death of so many people happen by the bullet of a gun.
Why do we fear death? Perhaps it is the sense of finality which accompanies the occurrence of death. Another possibility could be regret and shame for some things we have or have not done. Maybe it is the thought of departure from your loved ones. No matter the reason, we all have at one point in our lives feared death. In his novel The Death of Ivan Ilych, Leo Tolstoy teaches us that despite its inevitability, we should not be afraid of dying. By living a morally correct life, and not one of falsehood, we will be prepared for our end, and not dread it.
Outmatching all others is the universal fear of death. These three fears are some of if not the scariest and most terrifying of all. It's 5:43 A.M. I still have not been to sleep for I must finish writing my fear essay because my first fear is Atychiphobia or otherwise known as the fear of failing. The lighter it gets it side the tighter the knot deep in my stomach gets making me feel as if I was being ripped from the inside out.
