Why My Family Came To America

Now a day, there are many people leaving their native countries to come to America for life opportunities such as free education. First, in most countries it is very hard for a child to go to school. If your parent doesn’t have money you can’t go to school. For example, I still remember when I was in the age to start school back in my country, I wasn’t able to go because my parent didn’t have money and the school fee was very high. Second, many immigrants chooses to come to American to give their children an opportunities to be able to go to school. They don’t have to worry that their kids would stay home because they don’t have the money to pay, but instance it a joyful moment for them. Moreover, most family choose to come here again because

I was born on April 23, 1994 in Brampton, Ontario. I have lived in Brampton my entire life. I completed my undergraduate degree at University of Toronto, and now I am here at York University completing my BEd. I am someone who values helping others above anything else, which is why my dream has always been to become a teacher. This is something that I will accomplish, and nothing will stop me from achieving my dreams!

My family is from Mexico, a place where there is no prospect, and they have given up their most important wishes for mine. Being a Hispanic doesn’t make me feel inferior, but it makes me diligent. I have observed the way my parents worked throughout their years. The way they managed to survive and pleasure us, my brother and I, with our wants or needs. It is important to love who I am, my heritage and background, because it is not about how much money I have in my wallet but it is about the lesson or motivation I cultivated. The most amazing part about my heritage is knowing how strongly and intensely we believe in ourselves. When we set a belief, it is rare for someone to destroy the significance of it so easily. We have strong morals and that is what makes my background/heritage so important to me. We never give up.

My parents came from Mexico to the United States for a better life, like many other families. My parents were not privileged enough to make it past a middle school education. They worked very hard so that my siblings and I could succeed in America. Therefore, I felt bad whenever I asked for help on homework because what if they couldn’t help me? I never wanted to make them feel bad for not knowing English. Instead I struggled through it on my own because I was going to be the one they could depend on, later in life due to my education. Instead of letting my parents go through the struggle, I did everything on my own. I struggled so that they could later depend on me.

The reason I came the United States is for study. Same as millions international students, I choose American as a place where I attend college, there are two reasons make me made this decision. The first reason is that America has one of the best higher level education in the world. United States not only has best universities of the world, but also the whole nation’s universities have a better academic performance than rest of the world. So that I came to America for study in order to enhance myself. The second reason of I came to America is the competition in my country – China is intense. In the past year, there are 765 million students graduated from college, since the population of college students is super large, find an idea job in China

It can be very challenging to move away from the country you grew up in. Recalling all those moments of laughter, excitement, and adventure can only make one more and more depressed. I was born in Port-Au -Prince, which is the capital of Haiti and raised in Gonaives. I spend most of my early childhood in Haiti. I only knew my native language, food, music, and history. I was only familiar with my native holidays and celebration. Therefore, the day my mother came to me and told me I had been awarded my resident card, and we had to move to America. My life changed forever.

Being born of 2 immigrant parents, who work menial jobs and have no education has always had its weight on me. Neither one of my parents are high school graduates and no one in my family has obtained a collegiate education. I have been able to experience first hand how difficult a life with no education is. I recall other students sharing how their parents provided aid with their homework and read to them, knowing I did not get to experience that made me gloomy. I had no other choice but to learn everything on my own and then attempt to teach my parents. This peculiar lifestyle has pushed me harder in academics and has given me a genuine appreciation for the value of an education.

People say that coming to the United State would be a dream come true. I was born on September 21, 1998 in Thailand. I thought coming to America, my life will change to better rather than working so hard everyday and night at the farm to get just enough rice for the family. Even in the United State, my parent’s had to starve just so we can eat.

I came to America from Pakistan two years ago. I am currently attending Broward College to get my associate degree. One of my most important goals is to get a master’s degree in aerospace engineering and become an engineer. To achieve this goal, I am very passionate. I have worked very hard to maintain good grades. I have joined clubs and faced many difficulties to be where I am. I am passionate about math and physics and due to that reason I want to attend a prestigious school for sciences and become an engineer. Unfortunately, I cannot afford to get the education; therefore, I am working hard to get scholarships.

I never truly thought about how my family had come to the United States. I assumed someone in my family, long ago, had decided that they wanted better for themselves and their family and had decided to come to the United States. It did not become a big deal for me until I found out that those people, who wanted better for themselves and their family, were my grandmother and grandfather. Up until then, I always took my citizenship for granted. I believed that being born in America was one of my natural rights that no one could take away when in reality it was a blessing and a privilege given to me by my grandmother and grandfather. Growing up in a hot and dusty town doesn’t seem so crummy, but when gang affiliations and facing death at every corner; a whole new concoction is created.

Nowadays, education is one of the most important elements that help people to achieve the success. I have studied in Viet Nam, and I have failed in my studying. In Viet Nam, I used to think education was not essential to my life, and I did not plan anything about my academic plans. I failed in my university, and I worked in the local company in the downtown. Everything was fine, but I could not be promoted without a degree. I went to the United States of America to restart my studying. Therefore, I have planned my educational plans for next three years seriously, such as perfect my English skills, find a scholarship, and transfer to my dream university.

Everyone has a dream or a goal of what they want to be when they grow up. Yet it is up to each individual to live up to their dreams and accomplish them. In order to help accomplish them, education is needed. In the United States, the education system is ranked towards the bottom of the ladder in standardized test score rankings. How can this be? It is because the education system is taken for granted. In other countries that outrank the United States, education is not readily available to just anyone. In many cases, it is unaffordable for families to send their children to school, so they instead send them to work in factories and other means of employment. In the United States, education is free to all, thanks to taxes, and even in some cases colleges can be easily affordable through financial aid, scholarships, and loans. Residents of other countries often come or strive to come here to get an education. America has the most universities than any other nation. People who arrive here to learn from overseas appreciate what is being offered here because they know they are better off here than back at home.
