I am writing on behalf of Kamila Rivas, who is currently on the waitlist for the Law Center. She wants to go to Georgetown Law and has told me expressly that if she is admitted she will go. She is kind, exceptionally accomplished, and is the kind of person that I would be honored and grateful to have as a fellow Hoya. She currently works at Creative Associates International as a technical manager. The company supports social development throughout the developed world, and her responsibilities, among other things, include managing government-funded programs worth millions of dollars. She and I met a few weeks ago at a conference on preventing radicalism, that her company sponsored at the Law Center. We followed up in a phone conversation, where she explained in greater detail why she wants to be a lawyer, and why specifically she wants to go to Georgetown. …show more content…
Kamila grew up in El Salvador and grew up next to areas of extreme violence and poverty. In that setting, Kamila and her family did community service on a regular basis. Her fire to serve the less fortunate comes from the habit she picked up from her parents growing up, and the indignation at witnessing such poverty throughout her childhood. Kamila believes that the law has the potential to be a powerful resource through which the less fortunate are uplifted and that as a lawyer, she can help the law fulfill that
Providing legal services to underserved communities can be both challenging and rewarding. I anticipate such a career after graduating from law school. My upbringing and experiences influence my desire to serve rural areas with limited access to legal services.
I am interested in attending the Antonin Scalia Law School at George Mason University due to the plethora of opportunities that are offered to their law students. I believe that these opportunities are encapsulated by the Scalia Law Advantage, as the law school’s proximity to northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. grant access to an incomparable amount of career opportunities and high-caliber faculty. These features are especially of interest to me as I believe that gaining practical experience in the government, a private law firm, or a non-governmental organization would be integral in developing a legal career. In addition to the exceptional location and professional opportunities, Mason Law’s smaller community and 1:11.8 teacher to student
The event’s objective is to increase the success rate of black student lawyers as they go through the challenges of law school. This is the 13th year of the conference and the organizers has planned and packed a productive

Along with participating in various Hispanic/Latina Support organizations, I additionally operated as co-editor of the Yale Law Journal, publishing law and federal articles. After graduating from Yale in 1979, with a J.D (Juris Doctor) degree in tow, I went on to work in the office of Robert Morgenthau, a famous Manhattan attorney; together, we succeeded in prosecuting everything from petty theft to homicides to child pornography charges. Five years later, I left Morgenthau’s firm and moved to a private firm in league with Pavia and Harcourt, which specialized in litigation and property rights, before divorcing Kevin Noonan in 1988.
She loves that she is able to make her own schedule, manage her own time, and take as many cases as she wants (and refuse the ones she doesn’t). She loves being able to help people whether it is a misdemeanor or a DUI; Kellie is on the spot to help. She says “it is empowering knowing that I can help people when nobody else will. It is a good feeling to be the light in the dark for some people. Everyone deserves a second chance; I know how it feels to be in your darkest hour and feel like nobody is there to help you. So knowing that I’m serving the people who are in the dark gives me a warm feeling inside”. Kellie says that there are no setbacks to her career, she loves it and wouldn’t trade it for the

With the help of the program I hope to gain professional connections with like-minded people, participate in informative workshops, and receive applications assistance, amongst other great opportunities. As a first generation student, I want to be a part of the solution and not the problem, I want to make changes instead of sitting around and waiting on the change to happen. My areas of interests include family/divorce law, international law and entertainment law. These four interests are passions of mine. As a public relations
Recently, I participated in a campus tour that was led by Ms. Keli Huang. The visit provided me with a better understanding of what Cardozo Law School has to offer. Cardozo Law undeniably has an outstanding reputation among legal institutions, along with brilliant professors who are truly invested in their student’s studies. However, the inviting community is what really sets it apart from other law schools. Ms. Huang raved about the supportive and friendly environment among the students. The welcoming atmosphere at Cardozo Law offer the students an unparalleled legal education that cultivates energetic strong class of attorneys; it is a community I would be honored to be part of.
These organizations will enhance my found passion for service and justice and empower me to do more. Beyond the opportunities Berkeley law offers to me, I know that I will add a unique perspective on law and justice to the already diverse and inclusive student body because I have a unique background, and experiences including, my experiences from my immersion trips in various communities in Kenya, Tanzania, and the United
Mercy spoke in fragments of sentences punctuated by long silences, and I worked hard to piece together her traumatic history. Though born in the United States, Mercy did not identify with American customs or values; nor did she connect with her family’s endless mourning for the traumatic loss of their country. The seemingly unbridgeable gap in our experiences remained on the outskirts of my awareness, a dull but insidious preconscious impression that our differences could destroy any approach at mutual understanding. I instinctively dealt with this perceived threat by trying to completely immerse myself in Mercy’s experience, in effect, attempting to hold back any aspects of myself that could obtrude or offend,
Abstract: With growing concerns about the privacy of personal medical information, the president has taken action and passed regulations attempting to protect this privacy. It should work well in traditional health care situations, but it questions still remain about how applicable it will be to health care on the web.
In many historical fiction books, some events are portrayed accurately, while others are based on false information. In one historical fiction book, after the deaths of many children, people in a British kingdom are quick to blame the Jews. In order to prove the Jews innocent (so as to keep the taxes that the Jewish merchants provide), the king hires a group of detectives and doctors, including one woman, Adelia. Because she is a woman, she is forced to do her work in secrecy, so as to not invalidate her research because of women 's role in society. This shows both discrimination towards Jews, and the role of women in society, and reflects many events that did happen in history. Ariana Franklin’s The Mistress of the Art of Death accurately portrays the prejudice shown towards the Jews and the restriction of the jobs available to women during the time.
I define myself as a curious researcher and reflective practitioner who perceives legal education as a combination of passion and practicality. Whereas my idealistic side wants to thoroughly understand the development of global legal ethics, my pragmatic side asks what actions should be taken by lawyers to solve international legal problems. Hence, Penn Law’s core strengths in providing a remarkably interdisciplinary learning experience and the program of Legal Practice Skills will be the bridge to my academic and professional aspirations.
In The Scarlet Letter, Nathaniel Hawthorne executes an interesting literary technique. The brilliant author employs the use of settings that correlate with, or relate, to the major events and trends that are analyzed throughout the novel. Such correlation between the setting of a scene and its action allow for the reader, with a prior knowledge of Puritanic Society and a basic understanding of its values, to truly grasp the essence of the text. Hawthorne’s fuzzy use of such settings contributes to the overall context of the story being similar to that of the movements of a pendulum: Hawthorne may arouse both the reader and text with a “big bang,” but can also swiftly shift gears to a new setting and “drop low” in deep suspicion of the events
