Why do I want to join the Hopkins Science Olympiad Team?
Those two years I am going to spend in Junior High should be filled with memorable experiences and moments. Many competitions, tests, and tryouts will be held to decide a group of gifted students to join the Basketball team, Science Olympiad team, and Math Olympiad team etc. Students who are chosen to represent the school through these teams work hard to win and make everybody proud. I want to be one of these students and achieve my goals for the future.
Being in one of these teams is an honor; you carry the hopes of winning and team spirit which lead to success. You make new friends and rivals along your journey. There are also many downsides of being on one of these teams, you

I am particularly interested in Neurology, the study of the brain and Seismology, the study of earthquakes. I am interested in Science since it holds the key to many questions that are yet to be answered. So I choose to join the Science Olympiad team for this is an opportunity to study more interesting aspects of Science and then test my knowledge through the competitions.
By joining this team I get to meet many opponents from various schools and learn about them and their school. This is also an excellent opportunity to make new friends outside of school. This is also an excellent educational opportunity to improve my Science. I could improve speaking skills, strategy making skills, and debating skills in this educational experience. Team building and self-esteem are also some of the skills I will pick up on my journey. I long for the intense discussions, plans, and a debate to win.
There is also an advantage of expanding my knowledge to more than just the basics of Science. Since, all we learnt about Science is just the basics of Science, it barely scratches the surface. Also the more we all accomplish, the more pleasant memories we will have later

Every time my mother used to tell me my dad was perfect and I should also be like him. My mother said he provides everything I ask for because he studied well in his childhood. My dad used to help me when I am trying to solve difficult math problems, he told me problem solving skills will come easily if you read the question carefully and think about it, the answer will come easily to you. He helped me with my studies and pointed out my mistakes, so that I could fix them and never make them again. He showed me better ways to study rather than just memorize whatever is written in the textbook and write all that in the exam. He was always patient with me and I admire him for it. I have a four year old sister right now and she looks up to me, I want to set the right example. I want my sister to see me as her role model. I want to make her proud and say “That is my big sister.” That is my dream and I want to achieve it no matter what. After all, who doesn’t want to be a role model for their younger siblings? This is another reason I want to join the team.
‘A life full of mistakes is better than none’ George Bernard Shaw had once said. Looking back, I found that it is the truth. Yet I want to prove that is wrong and that trying to join the Science Olympiad team was not a mistake. I love Science, it fascinates me and I yearn to improve in Science and make it my strength instead of my average subject. My ambition is to become a Neurologist
Many people never understand the importance of team sports and activities until they have been a part of one. Being involved in a team demonstrates personal strengths can be used to grow as a team. Being a part of my soccer team, Fox Run, for seven years of my life truly changed every person on the team. Even though our team has split apart due to seniors graduating, the lessons we learned will continue to last forever. From fourth grade to eleventh, the sport through Fox Run has shown me to respect others, create lasting friendships, and persevere through the wins and losses.
I believe that The Helix Summer Science Institute is not solely an enriching academic experience, but also a social engagement opportunity. I believe that I would make an excellent student at the Helix Summer Science Institute 2016 because, by enhancing my understanding of the practical and theoretical aspects of science, I would be able to integrate this knowledge into my life. This academically rigorous program presents me with the opportunity to acquire methodical, logical and practical skills that are applicable to the real world. I am a very studious, motivated and passionate student, who perseveres in the face of adversity, while always respecting my peers. I embrace diversity, and believe that success is achieved through collaboration. I have a passion for science and public outreach, and I believe that these interests are connected.
This school year, I want to get more involved with clubs and athletics that interest me. I am in HOSA and Student Government; which I would like to run for a office in Student Government at the end of the school year. I was also apart of the football and basketball teams and I am also going to try to be on the track team. Furthermore, as the year progresses, I want to receive all A's in my classes (have succeeded so far). In English this year I am going to further my reading and writing skills. To do so, I will need to practice these skills continuously which I feel that I can accomplish.
Furthermore, performing research alongside some of the greatest scientists will provide me a better understanding of the scientific method and how new medical procedures and treatments come to be.
As a STEM student in the Biomedical pathway I am constantly introduced to new forms of science every single day, which is certainly a privilege because as a STEM student I am exposed to new ways of learning which aren’t covered in a typical classroom setting. In fact, Science is my favorite subject because it’s a constantly evolving subject that is responsible for the fluidity of earths processes. Moreover, my interest to increase my knowledge base leads to my interest in the Science aspect of the Governor’s Honor Program.
Science has always been one of my favorite subjects, an always found myself fascinated by it. In elementary school, while most of my classmates dreaded going to school, I always looked forward to it. Everyday I would make sure to get to school early, because I just couldn’t wait to see what new things we would learn each day. My eagerness to learn hasn’t changed as I have gotten older. Although attending Harper College has allowed me to obtain my associate's degree, I am now ready to move on and work towards earning my bachelor's degree in Speech and Hearing Science.
Amant High School Band where I assist underclassmen with marching techniques, understanding difficult musical rhythms, and more. Being a part of the STA Band has taught me that the saying “Team work makes the Dream work” is extremely accurate because even though many of the band members were greatly affected by the flood, we had an amazing marching season due to every student working diligently, intensively, and collaboratively. I pride myself on being a good role model not only at school, but also at home. Since I am the oldest of 6 kids, being an exceptionally good role model for my family is extremely important to me. This consists of always making good grades, being kind and friendly, and working as a team.
Being part of a team is an amazing thrill! The benefits of being on a team are that you can accomplish something together and you can trust one another.
No matter where an individual ends up in life, he is going to represent a team. Whether it be in school, church, work, or family; it is essential that he learns how to be part of a team. Being part of a team is not easy, it takes work and dedication. Football is a sport which requires its participants to be team
Science Olympiad has several goals. One of their goals is “increasing male, female and minority interest in science” (Science Olympiad). It is important for the less fortunate to be successful. Another goal they have is “providing recognition for outstanding achievement by both students and teachers” (Science Olympiad). The last goal of the organization is “creating a technologically-literate workforce” (Science Olympiad).
Playing on a team helps them grow. They become more fit because of all the exercise, and they develop important social skills that will become crucial later on in life. People need to focus more on the the people and not the prize. For instance, a group -having fun- could practice for months and still fail.
Secondly, I love to learn and know more about science in general. When I was a student in high school, I spent most of my time to learn and solve the problems with biology, chemistry, math, and physics. For example, one of my assignment for biology is a research about the genetic disorders
It can help the younger researchers to have easy access to teachers/mentors (National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, 2011). One can reach goals and objectives efficiently and faster. Team science efforts can also help group members by sharing knowledge from each other and this can give them good grant proposal skills. From the pros I can clearly related to having easy access to mentors or fellow senior students during this project. Clare and Adrienne had pretty clear idea on every step of the project. They answered all my questions to clear my doubts related to the project and related to our subject. I learned a lot though them during this project and team science activity.
When I think of science, I reflect back to the day after having lunch in the cafeteria, sitting in my Science class looking in a microscopes thinking to myself, “how will I touch this frog in the pan,’ waiting for me to dissect. This is when I envision myself as a mad scientist working on my experiment like Albert Einstein proving my theory on frogs as correct but yet at the same time showing the world how talented and smart I was identifying frog organs. Years ago, my science class participated in a project to find out about each student blood type. We each pricked our thumb and swabbed it on a piece of paper and placed a chemical solution on our blood to determine our blood type. This was exciting because we each wanted to know our blood typed and how would it match my parent blood type. This not only made me exciting about learning science, it made me interesting about learning about physical science
Thirdly, it can build the skills such as social skills, leading skills, and teamwork skills. In social skills, it gives students the opportunity to socialize with other peoples. For
