1. From reading this summary of tiger ecology, what aspects of the tiger’s environment need to be recreated in a zoo environment?
To start with, many zoo facilities in Asia are very overcrowded with tigers, causing tigers to die as soon as they are placed in such zoos. One thing tigers need is more space as well as more resources to breed. Tigers definitely need trained, well equipped, zookeepers. Another necessity would be space so they can best prevent diseases from spreading. Due to some reports, zoo keepers are concerned with medical problems that are potentially preventable in the proper habitat and proper medical care.
4.Why is it important for a

The biologists working in the wild, could have many zoos to thank for their work in identifying all of the precise dosages of drugs needed for anesthesia. Also, field researchers analyze the paw prints in the zoo from the jaguars. This helps them begin to read the tracks and able to estimate the size of these wild cats.
8.What kinds of "enrichment activities" do you think are important for zoo animals to participate in? Why? David Shepherdson is a self-effacing guru of the enrichment movement. Being a scientist for the conservation-program at the Oregon Zoo, David has brought so much joy and mental health of so many captive animals for the last 20 years, or so. I believe they should be pampered and massaged and washed frequently. Also, zoo keepers should do medical health checkups once a month or as needed. Animals should be treated as well as humans are, especially if they are going to be kept in zoos.
9.As a habitat expert, how would you design zoo exhibits so that they are suitable for these "enrichment activities?" As a habitat expert, I would do existential research to match the natural habitats of the animals as seamlessly as I could. The animals would have all of the necessities to partake in the enrichment activities they need. The health of the animals would come before anything else at my zoo. 10.What are the challenges in keeping tigers? As the wild places for tigers shrink around the world, many zoos have
"Zoos have improved a lot in the last 4,000 years. These days, most zoos create friendlier environments for animals. ... Now, however, they get their animals through captive breeding programs and other zoos." This is an understandable concern, however, but this is not the case. Animals are not meant to be kept in captivity for human entertainment, animals are meant to be wild, the artificial surroundings in zoos an cause Obsessive Compulsive Disorder
Zoos play an important role in conservation. It is important to realize zoos have breeding programs that help restore threatened species. As a result of those breeding programs, the Los
Zoo have many creative ways to protect animals. Zookeepers are supposed to protect the animals and the zoos. People visit zoos for entertainment but, the main focus is conservation efforts. The role of zoos is to protect animals by giving them living space and by giving the basic need and preventing them from extinction. Zeekeepers will do anything to keep the animals in zoos safe.
People think that animals want to be in zoos, but they really do not. In some zoos the owners or zookeepers see how the environment is making the animals feel bad or good and they try to change it by giving the animals a similar habitat to where they came from. All three stories “The Stripes Will Survive”, “The Zoos Go Wild”, and “Our Beautiful Macaws and Why They Need Enrichment” deal with protecting animals but they all do so in different ways.
In “Morality’s progress essays on humans, other animals, and rest of nature, “ Dale Jamieson argues that the zoos establishment and he against the zoos . The strongest argument Jamieson gives for this argument is that taking animal from their native environment to zoos they will lose their freedom. In this paper Provide an assessment of Jamieson’s argument. Animal And liberty Jamieson argue that put the animal in captivity And restrict their freedom .
As claimed in the LCA article, ”Animals in zoos are forced to live in artificial, stressful, and downright boring conditions”(User, Super). Evidence shows time to time that animals are being affected by zoos. There are many things hidden behind the facilities, that many people do not know about. The animals are being held in conditions that no animal should ever live in. Even though some zoos do focus on helping the animals, they are not as beneficial to the animal because they are not provided with the proper care and attention they need and zoos do not try to fix their problems.
Zoos have become a very visited place over a person’s lifetime, whether it be for an educational school field trip or for a day of fun. It’s a wonderful experience to be able to see animals up close in a controlled environment, keeping visitors safe from these animals, however do visitors think of what the animals are going through? Zoos are not providing enough space for captivated animals to live causing numerous problems not only involving the animals, but some visitors as well. Zoos should not be allowed to hold animals in captivity unless they significantly increase the size of each cage (change cage into something else).
The exhibits are also very fascinating, and after going to the zoo you can catch a glimpse of a certain animal's way of life. Without zoos we wouldn't have the unbelievable experience of seeing Earth's most beautiful life forms. Zoos keep endangered species safe, and out of harms way. We need to start caring about the life forms on this planet. Showing each animal compassion, and love. My knowledge on zoos has been stretched after my reading analysis today. Based off of the articles, "The Stripes Will Survive", "The Zoos Go Wild", and "Our Beautiful Macaws and Why They Need Enrichment", we can truly get in-depth analysis about the role zoo's
The starting point was my years in high school learning to become a zoo keeper. In between classes on minimizing stress when handling parrots and different lion enrichments, I also learned why those very animals are in need of our conservation programs. The decline of suitable wildlife habitats is strongly connected with exploitation of environmental resources. I also gained a deeper understanding of the daily needs, both mental and physical, that all animals have, be it wildlife or livestock.
Every year almost 175 million people visit a zoo, yet the mistreatment of animals in zoos goes almost completely unnoticed. This mistreatment is constantly swept under the rug by issues that society deems more relevant or impact us more. For example, issues like climate change receive more attention. However, this mistreatment is relevant and is constantly impacting society. These animals that are left malnourished, fatigued, and constantly fighting bacterial infections, are important. Every time an animal is pulled from the wild and put into captivity it impacts the mental health of the animal and endangers everyone and everything around it. Zoos are to blame for this endangerment, yet so is the public for overlooking mistreatment such as enclosures that are too small, surplus animals, and mental illness in animals.
Zoos present a certain blend of nature and culture. They have always provided a way to bring natural wildlife and urban Americans together as a means of entertainment. Yet, throughout the years the role of zoos have changed. Though once used for amusement, zoos are now being used for education on preservation and the welfare of endangered species. One may wonder where and how the idea of zoos started and just how they, and the environment around them, have changed throughout history.
Now there are modern zoos in almost every city in the world that boasts different arrays of animals. With all these different zoos around the world, we see different approaches on how these animals are treated and what they are subjected to.
Zoos are a dynamic educational source that enhances our community. Zoos raise awareness about jeopardized species and the significance of preservation. Zoos may help us to comprehend animals. They offer a good tool for our societies by lodging and dealing with creatures that may have been in peril at one point in their life. “100,000 kids come to London Zoo every year to learn about creatures.”[3] Usually when people come to zoos and they are taught about the conservation of some of the endangered species, a lot of these people get motivated and inspired to do something about it either by donating money or volunteering to help and so on.
The main aim of zoos is to protect and conserve global biodiversity and wildlife. To do this they have four roles to play which are; research, conservation, education and welfare.
Enclosures have shown to have the most effective way of protecting tiger populations. The enclosures are closed of plots of land that humans overall cannot interfere with, except replenishing prey in need be and protecting the boarders. Enclosures are the best form of conservation because there is little human intervention, the tigers are still wild and can grow and live by natural ways, which will allow the growing
