Why Is Technology Important In Civil Disobedience

Eye catcher… Civil disobedience is an active refusal to obey (laws, demands, and commands). It can be from disagreeing with your parents to breaking a law. Civil disobedience is a negative force when the public is misinformed, breaking laws, punishments way out of hand for the situation, and misinterpret what is or is not civil.

Civil disobedience is a belief that is practiced in which the people disobey the law in a peaceful manner because it does not come to an agreement with their moral values. Over the years this idea of challenging the government has developed into a duty for the people. This concept is explained in the piece “Civil Disobedience” by Henry David Thoreau and “Letter from Birmingham Jail” by Martin Luther King Jr. They both express acts of passive resistance in which the impact is still felt in the modern world. Although, these ideologies were used in Thoreau and King’s time, they need to be updated to fit in today’s world.

Civil Disobedience is a practice that's being used as far back as times of discrimination against blacks in the south. Even though slavery had been completely gotten rid of in the United States, the south still hated blacks with a passion. This led to the creation of Jim Crow laws, laws that looked as though they were helping blacks but really hurt them. Blacks had finally had enough and decided they would try and get equal rights one way or another, so they started politely disobeying the laws. In the 50's, a black man named Homer Adolph Plessy sat in a white train car because of the law he heard about, "Equal protection under the law" and he was arrested for doing so. This led to the creation of the "Separate but Equal" law.

Throughout American history are many examples of civil disobedience, and when we analyze the meaning of civil disobedience we realize that without this America would be a very different place. The Boston Tea Party, The Revolutionary War, The Civil Rights Movement are all a few major examples of civil disobedience that have shaped America into the world it is today. Civil disobedience, in a sense, is taking the law into ones own hands when they feel that the laws in place are unjust or unethical and want to change these laws to better ones own life and those of others. Although people think that civil disobedience is ineffective because of the consequences it may have, other people think that it is very effective and have many benefits such as it gets results, makes the opponent look bad and there can be less death by the civil the disobedience.

Doing something peaceful means more than just nonviolence, but doing an action that causes other people to react in a calm way in return. In a free society, peaceful resistance to law can cause a lot of change that can be both positive or negative. However, I do believe it has way more of a positive impact than negative because a resistance speaks up against a law that they do not believe in and to create change. Through a more peaceful approach, resistors will avoid spreading any means of hate, while still having hope to change the law.
