For many years immigrants have been coming to the U.S for a better life and refuge. Immigrants do the the dirty jobs such as plumbing, construction, etc.

Each and every year, hundreds of thousands of immigrants, are desperate to enter into the United States of America. Although these immigrants are entering into the United States for different reasons, they all hope for the same things once they reach their new home, happiness and stability. There is a multitude of reasons why an immigrant might have left their homeland; reasons such as religious differences, escaping civil wars, and some are refugees. Most immigrants believe that America is the best country to immigrate to due to their freedom, benefits, and protection. Although on paper, the idea of accepting immigrants into our country is a great idea, many U.S. citizens are against incoming immigrants because the increase in their taxes.

Denying them naturalization or selling legal status only to people who can afford high fees and legal expenses doesn’t make our border-control and immigration laws stronger. It makes them unfair” (Cohen). Some family like mine came to America so their kids can have a better education.

While living illegally in the U.S., their children that are born here are considered citizens and are eligible for social economic programs. According to a report from the Federation for American Immigration Reform, “Many immigrant families get welfare through the eligibility of their U.S. citizen children. It is also important to realize that even when immigrants are ineligible for federal welfare programs, the burden of their support is simply shifted over to state and local welfare agencies.”(1-2). Trying to solve such a widespread problem has been a major goal of the U.S. congress since before the welfare reform bill of 1996. In his column, Ron Paul says, “Amnesty for illegal immigrants is not the answer. Millions of people who broke the law by entering, staying, and working in our country illegally should not be rewarded with a visa. Why should lawbreakers obtain a free pass, while those seeking to immigrate legally face years of paperwork and long waits for a visa?”(1).
